-First we are 3-0, already talking about our seed in the playoffs -Then we suck ass and start calling for a new coach, QB, Off Coord., owner, etc. -Then we win a few in a row and start seeing a possible playoff chance. -Then we blow it against the Falcons, everyone starts talking about the draft, no chance for the playoffs. -Then all the right teams lose, we get a little Christmas gift from Caldwell, and the playoffs are solely in our own hands. If anything, you can definitely say this year has NOT been boring.
We'd have breezed into the playoffs with Bill Callahan as the OC. What we needed this year was exactly what we saw today: a dominant running game and a controlled passing game to keep the rookie out of trouble. What we got instead was a mess courtesy of Air Schotty. BTW, the end of the road is coming pretty soon here, because Sanchez is definitely going to be in over his head once we get past the Bengals, but the process of getting here has been a heckuva lot more painful than it had to be for all concerned. Note that the game plan looked suspiciously like Air Schotty at the start of the game and somebody dialed it back bigtime thereafter. I hope that was Rex getting a clue.
Pretty crazy that we can make the playoffs at 9-7 based on the way our tiebreaker situation looked a few weeks ago.
It's starting to look like the vintage Jets playoff scenario: everybody else with a stake loses out and the Jets get in at 9-7. 2002 redux.
To be fair if we get past the Bengals we won't be playing anyone he hasn't seen yet this season in the WC round.
Yeah I was figuring that if Cincinnati can't beat us next week then Sanchez can probably get by them in the WC round. It's going to be really tough though, the opposing QB's in the playoffs look like Manning, Brady, Rivers, Palmer and Orton with little to no chance that the Jets face Orton. Sanchez is in over his head in that crowd and while I think the Jets can beat the Bengals I also think that's where the road ends.
It was a pleasure to see high percentage throws again. I saw slant routes and comeback routes and sanchez looked good out there. Took em 12 weeks to get back to what was working.
It's beyond rare for a rookie QB to do well in his 1st playoff game. I can see him having a bad game and then the morons come out of the woodwork to bash him.
If the Jets run the same gameplan they ran against the Colts (notice I used the words run and ran in there) then I think their defense can probably win the game. As long as the Jet's offense doesn't give the Bengals good field position repeatedly by turning the ball over and the Jet's special teams don't allow more points than they score the Bengals are very beatable. Then they get matched up against a team they probably can't beat using that scheme, like San Diego or Indy with full Peyton.
It's worth pointing out that the gameplan that they ran against the Colts failed to make a dent until Indy pulled its starters, and essentially the same gameplan resoundingly failed 2 weeks ago against Atlanta.
It was not the same gameplan against Atlanta. The Jets passed the ball 34 times and ran it 33 times against Atlanta and lost. They passed the ball 21 times and ran it 44 against the Colts. The difference in the two games is that when the Jets rushing attack looked bad in the 1st quarter against Atlanta they started throwing the ball. Against the Colts they threw it a bit and then they dialed it back completely and went to the same game plan they used against Oakland and Buffalo take 2. And I think the Jets were already in the hunt big time when Indy pulled the starters. They had held Manning in check fairly well and the Colts were definitely not on their usual pace at that point.
But the biggest difference was Sanchez didn't throw a stupid pick and greene didn't fumble. irregardles of the throws Sanchez does or does not make (and he made some good ones today) this team will be in every game as long as he doesn't turn the ball over. Win or lose next week, they will be able to take a lot of positives into next season
I guess I'd rather put the game on our defense and if we lose, I'd rather the defense lose it. At least we'd know our best effort got defeated.
talk about a roller coaster of a season. I actually kept believing in the team up until the atlanta game(unlike my dad lol)
It is truly a Christmas miracle that the Jets are still in the playoff hunt, as the 5th seed, no less. Next week's game means something.
I actually don't know how many defensive starters they pulled, I can't identify most of them by number. I know that Brackett at least was off the field, and if I'm not mistaken Freeney went off as well.
Yep...Sanchez can get a taste of playoff experience and we get an extra week of football. Realistically, I would expect it will be one and done...but thats better than sitting home. NBC just said Jets-Bengals game will be the Sunday Night game.
