this article sucked. this is what we're supposed to call professional sports journalism? i'm becoming an english major asap. i've written better papers drunk.
Not sure we want to go around this circle again but we got killed by the short passing game all year last year. We couldn't cover Tight Ends or Running Backs out short. We got burnt all season long. Some of us (myself included) refused to admit it until December. I kept looking at the stats and saying, "but they're not allowing many yards passing" when in reality they were getting enough for first down after first down.
the little screens to RB's or slants to TE's were enough to pull your hair out. it always happened on 3rd down too.
i hate how the media keeps pointing out that rex ryan said it was over and that he didnt know we were technically eliminated yet. OF COURSE HE KNEW THAT! he was just saying it out of frustration holy hell and im glad he did. it was a slap in the face to our team and thats what they needed, not that optimistic mumbo jumbo were still in it rah rah rah, thats what we're here for.
it doesn't mean just losing and making the playoffs, it can also mean a team that wins but didn't control their own destiny and needed another team or several to all lose and they do. that did not happen to the Jets. the Jets controlled their own destiny and won, big difference between the two. the record in that case is irrelevant. there is no difference between a team winning their final game to go 9-7 to make the playoffs or 10-6 to do so. I don't see anyone claiming the Ravens backed in, yet they were in the same boat as the Jets. generally hypocrisy reveals stupidity, and in this case the media, as you said, is fucking stupid.
good post. I'll also add our ILB play has vastly improved with Harris and addition of Scott. these guys have been animals against the run, and can add pressure to the QB or drop to coverage. Scary thing is, with a healthy Jenkins collapsing pockets and stuffing runs, this D has potential to be even better.
Ya, that is scary. Let's not slight Pouha's play, however. I've seen a lot of writers call him a potential Pro-Bowler.
yea well these journalist majors who spent years lerning how people talk and shit arent very good at picking up sarcasm which our coach who has the "regular guy" personality as a coach used. were "obviously" out of the playoffs...thats referring to our players. but hey thats the way i interpretted it.
The amazing thing is that this was all done on defense with so much of the same cast as last year. Thats what is so....you cant give Rex a bigger compliment then that. "That's borderline unprecedented" he writes..and all of those defensive stats are. You will probably never see a transformation like that again. Rex gets to add a few players of his own next year too. Incredible read...great find.
 Badge...I thought the same thing and chuckled to myself when I read that...what a classic interview that would be...too bad..what a loss.
WoW, Only if we have a reliable QB. I am not bashing the young guy. He is just not that relaible as a Rooky
he isn't. If he were a 3rd year player in a breakout season, this team could be extremely dangerous. But he's not going to have a good game Saturday. Its so rare for a QB to do well in their 1st playoff game in their 1st season, let alone get there. Tons of running, and the D has to keep Cincy under 20 pts.
