That's the miracle in and of itself.

Rex has changed a lot of things. I think the main/most encouraging thing is he has changed himself. About mid-season, he had a lot of question marks about his head coach ability. The team was undisciplined and kind of looking like it could or would crumble, just like they wilted last year. He took the bull by the horns and the team has won 5 of the last 6 and really should have won that 6th one as well.......

Anyway, more than defensive stats or other nonsense, it looks like he has the ability to improve and learn how to coach. IMO opinion that is about the most encouraging sign from him. It is too early to say he is going to be a great head coach in the NFL but he as shown some traits early on that give glimpses he can be.

He is infinitely better then game 1. Hopefully, he can be the opposite of Mangini and get better as he goes along, not worse.

I agree w/the 2nd half but as long as I have know the term, It has always meant losing and still falling into the playoffs.
I understand what you are saying but Losing has always been associated with "Backing In".

Take Denver for instance, They lost their last 4 and were Out looking in
Yet, if the JETS had lost (and a few other teams) Denver would have Backed into the playoffs.

That, for as long as I have watched football had been the definition of the term.

But as we all know, when it comes to our JETS they'll make all this BS up just to make us seem worse than it really is.

that's his silver lining - Adaptation. And its happening in front of our eyes.

Mangini never learned the meaning of the word.

After he admitted he needs help to figure things out and called Parcells and I would imagine a bunch of other coaches, he started getting better. He's known for his 2nd half adjustments, and his coaching got better in the 2nd half of the season, interestingly enough.

The big question is, can he have back to back successful seasons unlike his predecessors. They all had shit 2nd years. And Rex is the 1st to have a successful odd numbered year since Groh. Even numbered years shine kindly on the Jets, so hopefully this team is getting better.

I don't want another 06 into 07, where the team thought it was ready to compete and then the LG gets thrown off the team, and the draft picks up 2 people and thinks its go time... not to mention instability at the QB position with injuries. If sanchez can stay healthy and continue his progression, this team will get better and stronger and we will be seeing them a lot more in the postseason.

i agree when you win 5 out of you last 6 games including the last two controling your own destiny, that is far from backing in.

we had a bad middle season, ive never heard of backing into the playoffs in the middle of the season...

Can you imagine what we would be like if Favre had decided to play one more year with us based on his current form - let Sanchez sit and learn for a year and come on late in games - shit they would practially be giving us the trophy now.

I was thinking the same thing. Even if Marks numbers are so-so...as long as he gets the INT total down and we add a few pieces in the off season, get Jenks and Leon back...watch the fuck out.

Did the OP edit in the phrase "Odd Duck" himself? Because it's far more explicit language on the original site.

I think this is the recipe that will work. This game should not be determined by Sanchez having to carry the team. If we play nearly the same gameplan this Saturday and with the same intensity, we win; I do not see it much different. I think we may change a few things up, but not much.

The critical aspect of the game is for the Jets O and D lines to dominate the line of scrimmage. If that happens then I have little worries.

I think the Jets hold Cin to 16 points or less.

Good point. Even if we had a healthy chad from 2 yes ago we would be at least a 3 seed and everyone's sleeper from the afc.

    One More Stat? ...

Isn't our Defense also #1 in forcing the most 3 & Outs? I thought I read that somewhere. Can anyone confirm this?

just a small blurb from an SI article about Carson Palmer (Source)
Don't expect Lewis to open the cage Saturday. The guy who should be Cincinnati's best chance at winning will channel Trent Dilfer again. Jets coach Rex Ryan is a crazy man, whose team plays defense in his image. New York will put eight players on or close to the line, tell cornerback Darrelle Revis to shut Ochocinco's mouth (again) and make a passing Palmer run like his career is on fire.
