http://www.northjersey.com/sports/0...nchise_grabbed_its_franchise_QB.html?page=all I would post the entire article but for some reason it won't post. I thought this was a really good article.
I remember this being talked about when they made the Sanchez trade. Good article. I never really read about in depth.
Wow great article. I didn't realize that the Rams wanted a first round pick and David Harris. I'm glad they didn't make that trade.
Wow... my heart beat was speeding up even though I knew how it would end... "Talent and Character" I think that says a lot about the Jets drafting mentality. All the guys we drafted since Tanny was here have always been high character guys... "In god we trust, for everyone else we need data" that's just funny
-- The Lions took Stafford, and the Rams were on deck. The room fell silent. Tannenbaum turned to his lieutenants and delivered the following order: “Everybody, right now, I want you to think good thoughts. Anything you’ve done from a philanthropic standpoint, think about that.” -- WIN! lol. that is money. love the tanny.
I remember hearing about this but didn't know it was because that quirky rule.. Good stuff... BTW, Anyone else notice the pic? I hear Smithers in my head.... "Yes......You are my golden tix.... PSL's will all be MINE! hehehehehehe
Phenomenal article. Many thanks, WSW. I knew someone at Mark's draft party that day, and he was telling everyone how badly he wanted to be a Jet. Deal on the razor's edge, but it fell our way.
Same effect here. Anticipating the moment. Nicely written article. Felt like I was in the room. Good thing Elam had a good season. * Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 16, 2005 but was later waived * February 2, 2006, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys but again was later waived. * On September 12, 2007 he signed for the New York Jets as a free agent. In week 9 of the 2008 season, Elam picked off a pass from Trent Edwards in the red-zone and returned it for a 92-yard interception-return touchdown.[1] In week 15, he struck again against the Bills by forcing a J.P. Losman fumble, which led to a Shaun Ellis touchdown recovery with 1:54 left in the game, giving the Jets a 31-27 lead and eventual win.[2] * On April 25, 2009, Elam was traded from the Jets to the Cleveland Browns as part of the draft day deal that sent the 5th overall selection to the Jets, who used it to draft Mark Sanchez.
And Ryan also "kept" his word since Elam actually became the Browns starting SS http://www.nfl.com/players/abramelam/profile?id=ELA528222
Excellent article. I find this whole event very telling in regard to George Kokinis. I think he could have had his third pick, I really do. If Kok flat out says "No. Sorry. Call me back when you want to throw in the third pick," I really do believe Tanny would have called back. Draft day chicken is so fascinating!
Even though I'm sure Mangini or Tannenbaum would never spill the goods, I'd really like to read a similar article regarding Tangini's 2008 draft day machinations. There was so much going on! I always thought they were trying to get to the Rams spot to grab Chris Long, but in retrospect, it probably does make sense that they were just trying to get above the Falcons to secure Ryan. And then I believe we were trying to get to the Chiefs spot to secure McFadden ahead of the Raiders. So what went wrong? I think that would make for a fascinating read. Tannenbaum on the blinking end, I guess?
Tanny's a genius. Rex is a genius. Pretty well written article. A woman working in the FO found that clause in Elam's contract, Erin was her first name I believe. Thank her for letting the FO know that Elam had to agree to the deal. I had "Thanks Able Elam" in my sig for all of May from a related article after the draft. I wish I was in that draft room.
Excellent article..... it would be awesome (as a fan) to be able to sit in the war room with these guys on draft day. I would never say a word....just sit back....and watch the show.
