Ok, SBIII notwithstanding  Edit: Oh, and I was referring to the '83 game with the "two years old" statement, bad grammar FTW!
It's all about turnovers. We lost 4 fumbles against the Broncos that year. Hopefully, that number is significantly less next week.
Moreso than 98, this one was the greatest because I didn't even expect the team to be in the playoffs one month ago. Also, having this D and a rookie QB gives me a feeling of real hope that I haven't had in years.
this must rate near the top ,3 weeks ago this place was shit city ,now we have a place of love and harmony :breakdance:
Absolutely #2, and #1 in my lifetime. Jags 98 was huge, but we were home and favored. Yesterday was bigger, and hopefully Sunday will be bigger still.
I'd put it in a tie with two other divisional wins- Oakland in 82 and Jax in 99. But until we win the big one...
Agree. This is great, but if the Jets lose on Sunday it will put this team on the same level as the 82 Jets and the 98 Jets. A Jet win Sunday against the Colts will be the biggest win since SB III. And if the Jets lose Sunday in a gut wrenching way, this board will be back to repeated posts of SOJ, even though it won't be true.
Agreed, the Jets will have to beat the Colts on Sunday to top that 41-0 beat-down they dealt on the Colts in '02. But I don't think it has to be a beat-down.
Yep. So, is this the 4th AFC/AFL championship the Jets have played in? If I recall, they are 1-2, with both losses coming on the road. Need to break that trend.
Nope...that was a wildcard win at home. Can't compare with divisional playoff win on the road against a team we "weren't supposed to beat."
I don't think either of those quite measure up. The '83 win in LA (the Raiders weren't in Oakland at that time) was against a team that was not considered FAR superior to us (unlike yesterday). And the Jax game in '99 was at home against a team we were favored to beat.
A 7-8 point spread doesnt equal "far superior" in my mind, and unlike the SBIII point spread, which was an anomaly, using point spreads to determine the "bigness" of a win isnt a quality measurement. Perhaps most of you see the Cincy game as the biggest win you've experienced because you havent been around forever, but in the big scheme of things, it has the same impact as the other two divisional playoff wins. The Raider game in 83 and the Cincy wildcard card that previous week were two of the BEST consecutive games the Jets put together since the 68 AFL championship and SBIII. That team was rocking through the playoffs and certainly would have beaten the Fish on a good field. The Jax game was a huge win, who cares what the point spread was? (And i was at that game- it was one of the coldest friggin games ever.) The D had to shut down Fred Taylor, and my recollection was that the city was totally into the Parcells/Vinny team that season. That was a huge win for the franchise, though the bizarre game at Mile High the following week was one of the worst defeats I can recall in 40 years. The SD was tense, and exciting, and quality defensive football, but wasnt any "bigger" than the two other divisional wins, imo.
