Mornin' people. I know this has been bantered around a bit....but now that the offseason is upon us.....i'm curious what TGG nation thinks what the Jets FO should do with Kerry Rhodes. He's shown glimpses (and i use that term loosely) of playing great....but obviously not on a consistent basis. Poll forthcoming.....please provide a reason(s) for your stance...these yes/no answers serve no purpose.
the question is who's replacing him? he's not special but I want an upgrade. I don't know who's out there.
thats why i say keep him.we don't have alot of draft picks.who can we trade him for?does anyone really want to start a rookie safety next year,if we trade him for draft picks?.idk i think it's safer to keep him and worry about other needs than to create one more
IMO i think we should trade him. Although Kerry Rhodes has been playing alot better in the past weeks of the season I believe it really only is to showcase himself for other teams. He has played better in coverage and got to the quarterback when we asked him to blitz, but his tackling is still lack luster in all areas. If we plan on keeping Jim Leonhard at safety we need a guy who can cover the big te and tackle him at first impact. I just dont think Kerry is that guy. He can probably cover most tight ends pretty well, but for the price I think we can get for him right now and the fact that we have still have Eric Smith who is quite Serviceable I think we should trade him. There is a lot of safety talent in this draft to look at. Plus the more picks we have the more we can do with those picks. As well what if we dont trade him...... out of the blue Kerry becomes unhappy again.... Starts playing bad again.... I just see him going back to his earlier season ways if he doesnt get traded and now that we played some games in the limelight his worth is brighter than ever!
keep him for the same reason you keep Braylon - they have too much talent. You've just got to pray you can get them to utilize it.
I say try to trade Rhodes. If you can nab a second or third rounder. Eric Smith is a good safety, but he isn't a starter.
I believe we should try and trade him.....for a draft pick in return (perhaps a 3rd rounder if we're lucky). The draft is stocked this year with Safeties....we could probably land someone like Nate Allen or Chad Jones in the 3rd round (provided we get a 3rd round pick) to replace Rhodes.
This is the crux of the problem though. Me-first players kill teams....and Rhodes isn't good enough to constitute having his "attitude" on the his roster, IMO.
He's a liability and our D might be better playing with 10 men. No way we can trade him and his fat contract. So bench his ass and see if he can contribute. If he continues to be a prima donna, cut his ass.
why not trade him to a team that hasa decent extra CB? Rhodes played well against the Bengals and Chargers, those teams come to mind rite away-------anyone know ofa decent CB that we could get for Rhodes? I do not want him here next year-c ya Kerry best of luck
I would trade him. I think we can get an early 3rd for Kerry because of his coverage abilities. I just don't think he is a Rex guy. Kerry lacks toughness and is a very poor tackler. Move him and take Nate Allen/Chad Jones/Morgan Burnett.
i say keep him... he showed tremendous improvement after his benching and we have no other options...
Only trade him if we can get good value back...if not keep him we shouldn't get rid of players just for the sake of gwetting rid of them
Brandon Tierney touched upon this today; said he wouldn't be surprised if the Jets get rid of him via cutting him or trading him. The main reason was, when you compare his toughness and football IQ to Leonhard, he doesn't fit the identity of Rex's team. I'm of the opinion that Rhodes' prima-donna and egocentric attitude isn't going to change, nor will he suddenly 'find' toughness. So I vote to trade him, and if that's not possible, then cut him and make the S position one of the priorities this Offseason -- I mean, the Secondary itself needs a lot of improvement, so why not upgrade the whole thing?
if the player is a malcontent, isn't performing to his potential on the field, and is a deemed a possible detriment to the lockeroom....then sometimes "addition by subtraction" comes into play.
This uncapped year is really going to be lame with the rules that are in place, if you can't get a good replacement, the just keep him, we already have big problems to look into with our secondary with their suspect tackling and zone coverage being complete garbage, we need a number 2 CB more then a saftey.
I still think we should trade him for a edge pass rusher. The Giants need safety help and one of theirs would thrive under Rex. If we pull that trade off we could draft a top safety as well as develop Smith some more.
if Ed Reed retires (which is the hot rumor right now)....we could have a possible trading partner with the Ravens.
