And their opponent? The J-E-T-S. Seriously. Now that the 2009 season is over, it's time for our annual day-after look at what's going to happen next season. It would be just the Jets' luck that after a 41-year Super Bowl drought they finally make the game and then have to deal with playing in Jerry Jones' billion-dollar palace in Arlington with 80% of the 100,000 fans rooting against them. What happens in one NFL season in the free-agent era usually is not a good forecaster for the next year - the Saints finished last in the NFC South in '08 - but with the restrictive changes in free agency in the upcoming and presumably uncapped year, player movement is going to slow down. That would allow teams a better opportunity to keep their rosters intact and build on strong finishes. Since free agency began in 1993, rosters have turned at about 30% per year. The Jets and Cowboys each finished the regular season on a hot streak. The Jets won five of their last six games, then beat the Bengals and Chargers on the road in the playoffs and had a 17-6 lead two minutes before the half in the AFC Championship Game before Peyton Manning stepped on the gas. That gives Rex Ryan something to build on as long as he can control himself and not flip off any more fans in the offseason. Mark Sanchez took a giant step in the playoffs and if Leon Washington is able to rebound from his broken leg and Mike Tannenbaum can find Sanchez a big-time receiver in the draft (Notre Dame's Golden Tate or USC's Damien Williams), then the Jets should be able to open up the offense. Uhhh *knock on wood* Hey it could happen, we'll need extra corners/slot receiver in order to get to Dallas though ... what you guys think about this BOLD fucking prediction Saints winning the SB gives a lot of teams hope that hey we can do it to yanno But if happened in my Madden Franchise why can't it happen in the real world? It would be a sick SB, were going to really have to step up next year for that to happen, and we all know that the road goes through Indianapolis/New England
Yep if this guy is predicting the Cowboys to make it to the sbowl, then his jets prediction means nothing to me.
That would be awesome. We could have a massive TGG party at champ's place in Austin and head on to the game. Savings on hotels, more money for tickets and souvenier Rubick's Cubes for everyone.
Hopefully the Jets can be the first team to have the superbowl @ homefield in 2014. Be even more interesting if we can get some snow in the first cold weather outdoor superbowl ever too
Gary Myers is a pretty terrible columnist. Like Steve Serby without the cariciature-esque appearance. His articles are always extremely bipolar and are representative of the most hysterical, worst aspects of the New York sports media. When my buddy was covering the Jets for the NY Observer, Myers would pilfer the best parts of his columns on a regular basis. I won't shed too many tears when the expansion of the blogosphere at the expense of print media sends hacks like Myers to the glue factory. We all watch sports as a diversion from every day life, but guys like Myers often take it a step too far into that dreamworld at the expense of logical analysis. It's not a far out pick, but the AFC is way too balanced and the Cowboys are really, really wacky. -X-
Yep. Myers may be predicting the Jets for the next Super Bowl the day after this one, but he will be one of the first ones to rip them to shreds if they have a slow start in 2010. He just sucks. This year when they had him slotted to talk about the Jets on NFLN, he would spent 2 or 3 sentences about the Jets, usually non-committal or negative, and then start plugging his stupid 49ers book. Sometimes, he was able to avoid talking about the Jets altogether.
Nah U more of the Abyzmul ilk so U should consider bunking at his home in San Antonio only a hour more down the road from Austin
I'll be inviting myself over to stay at your place too, Champ.....make sure you have an industrial grade toilet plunger in the can.....my turds are pretty big. And yes....Gary Myers is clueless.
Awwww. I thought we were friends now. BTW, I don't know about IS staying at my place. I don't want him getting Chad's jizz all over my couch.
Cowboys aren't that bad of a team. Cowboys probably have a better chance of reaching the SB than the Jets.
I just hope this team maintains it's sense of urgency and hunger, i'm confident Rex will instill that in these players Jets Boys would be a sick SB, and I have to disagree with the Cowboys having a better chance, NFC has a lot of quality teams, AFC has some Elite Teams but a lot of bad teams IMO That's a very debatable argument
