The jets cant sign them. They would have to take at the MINMUM an 80% paycut for Chambers and Mason. Antonio Bryant would need an 90% paycut. We might as well speculate that Reggie Bush is going to leave the Saints and join the Jets for 800k a year.
I get that you don't want any of these players, though I still disagree with your rationale. It's also quite a stretch to think that they will demand catches. And Mason's on target drops might have something to do with Flacco's propensity to lead him into traffic/death. Both of our proposed courses of action can be carried out with a rookie WR taken in the 4th and a vet brought in for some immediate impact. Sanchez already forces throw and bringing in another viable target can help assuage this problem. And you know me well enough to know I'm not a badass; just an ass. It's kind of why we're friends...or must be, because damned if I can find another reason we keep talking, it's not like I've got money or a cool car.
Instead of reposting what I've already said, as you are doing, I am just going to say refer to my earlier post. Or, and here's a thought; if you don't like the thread-LEAVE.
http://content.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/salaries/playerdetail.aspx?lname=Feely&player=697 You can pull up all of their salary numbers. The most expensive Jet UFA is Feely. And odds are he is staying. The next most expensive I think is Richardson and hes making like 800k a year. Last year Bryant made 9 million, and Chambers/Mason both made close to 5million. All you gotta do is look at the numbers and realize it cant happen. Yeah id be happy if we got any of these recievers, I think they are all pretty good guys and would benefit us (assuming it cost NOTHING picks/trade wise) to have one of them. But it just looks impossible to happen.
So we speculate, that's why it's the offseason. Besides, looking impossible doesn't mean something actually is impossible, see the Saints actually winning a Super Bowl for proof of that.
Lets see who gets released / cut by other teams---------as far as the guys already mentioned I like Bryant he played with crappy qb's and little supporting cast--------I hate Chambers--I really think he is a pig/ dog. I saw Kevin Walters name but not sure how much he would cost? As I said lets see who gets OUT RIGHT released and then we will have a better idea.Trust in Tanny he will fill the holes--ps I would not be surprised to see Clowney GONE the guy was inactive down the stretch and he was stupid with his comments and twitter. Brad Smith is not THE answer at # 3 wr but in my eyes he is clearly ahead of all the others
Clowney and Smith had chances to step up and, outside of Smith in the wildcat, they didn't. The Jets offense is one solid slot WR away from being pretty damn scary.
I dont' agree with you. This thread has a good premise and I agree with the conclusion too (get a vet WR). I just don't really agree with the first two names. 1. IF Mason continues to play he'll do it for the Ravens... he'll never want to learn a new system, he is a leader on that team, he would be a #1 or a #2 there while nothing more than a #3 here and the Ravens need WRs more than we do (which means they'll give him more money than us). Plus the Ravens ar contenders like us So he either stays there or retires. 2. Bryant will find a team (Ravens?) willing to pay him AT LEAST 3 mill a year which is average money for a #2 and still more than we could give him. 3. That said I think that a couple of interesting WRs available on the cheap (not more than 1.5 mill a year and eventually low draft picks) will be there... guys like C. Chambers, B. Wade, maybe L. Coles (might be released), L. Moore, J. Avant, T. Holt, M. Furrey. All of these guys could be serviceable #3 WRs for a year or two while we try to develop some prospects in house. In my opinion if we count W. Wright and B. Smith as WRs (and they really aren't but they are very valuable to this team in other roles and can play 10 snaps a season at WR) we will always carry 6 WRs (4 + those 2)... This year it should be: Edwards, Cotchery, one of the guys mentioned before, Clowney (or whoever impresses in TC). Next year: Edwards, Cotchery, a rookie (in the high/middle rds), either Clowney or someone that proved more worthy than him (after another season to develop he'll have to show something). Dream scenario is we get someone like Avant or Moore for a low pick this year and a low conditional next year.
Ok not so much the thread being useless, but rather people arguing about whether its a good idea or not, when its beyond a long shot for it to happen.
I heard that Avant is probably going to get a longterm contract extension from the Eagles. However, I really do like the idea of bringing in Moore as long as we don't have to give up a 2nd round pick for him.
I understand your logic here, FriendlyGiantsFan, but as you've stated in this thread we have some older players on our OL and DL. We are built to win now, but we also have a fantastic core of younger players on our team. I would much rather bring in a young rookie WR that will help us out for years to come, instead of just a short term fix. This way, the Jets will hopefully be built to win for the next 4-5 years, instead of banking on winning it all next season and possibly sacrificing our future. This is more a general statement on how I feel, not just necessarily about the WR position. I don't mind if we can sign some UFAs that can help up, just as long as we don't give up any more draft picks for aging players. With that said, I agree that a WR is probably not our best move in the 1st round. I would much rather spend that pick on DE/DT/CB. This may sound like it is contradicting what I just said, but I would not mind it one bit if we were able to sign a veteran WR that could play in a limited role. None of the guys on your list would be here for more than 1 or 2 seasons, so I would like for the Jets to also look for a WR in the draft regardless of whether or not they sign one.
I don't want to give up a 1st or a 2nd either... I'm sure some talent will drop to the lower rounds... If we bring in Moore, as I said, I'd like it to be for our 5th rounder plus a conditional next year but honestly I think teams that rely heavily on the passing game should have 4 capable WRs... just like teams which rely heavily on the run should have 3 capable RBs... As a slot WR prospect I'm REALLY intrigues by Andre Roberts from Citadel but he'll go in the 3rd so we'll have to see who's there when we pick in the 5th or 6th. If someone we really like falls a bit (and if we don't bring in a vet WR) I wouldn't mind us trading a pick next year for a guy this year... like next year 3rd and this year 6th for a 3rd rounder and we get Roberts with that pick.
They are not the necessary piece Jets need. Rule all of them out. Instead, I would like to see what the Jets brass can do with DK. Yes, he is a tight end, but I think Jets will do themselves a world of good if they actually start utilizing him as a WR as well. He can be that slot WR, or he can even assume the split end at one end, if it comes down to it. I am not saying they should turn DK into a WR; he can create match up problems if he's utilized as WR as well.
we wont be able to sign many ufa, and the one(s) we do sign wont be receivers. we'll draft a guy late/udfa and we'll sign a vet that gets cut
