Interesting obviously both sides cannot agree. I really hope they can realize that Feely is a MAJOR factor in our game plan. ( Even though I actually dont dislike the Folk sign) The money is kinda ridiculous though Cmon Feely
If Feely is expecting a pay raise because the Raiders dumped so much money into Janikowski, then I hope he walks.
It's an uncapped year. The Jets can give him a decent deal with a frontloaded salary for 2010 and a smaller bonus than normal. It's what they should do. It's the right thing. I don't want an unknown quantity kicking for us next year because we let Feely walk.
Hahahahaha I'd much rather have a kicker who is consistent and can handle pressure situations that is in Feely's range than a guy like Mike Nugent who kicked 55 yard FG's in college but missed chip shots left and right in his rookie year.
Here's some consistency for you: Sebastian Janikowski was 26 of 29...with a long of 61. A perfect 11-11 on kicks shorter than 40 yards, 9-10 between 40-49, and 6-8 on 50 plus kicks. 16 touchbacks on 58 kickoffs I think one of his only misses was a ridiculous attempt - something like 66 yards. Meanwhile, Jay Feely went 30-36...with a long of 55. 18-21 on kicks shorter than 40 yards, 11-14 between 40-49, and 1-1 on 50 plus kicks. Feely was also 3-5 on in the playoffs with a 50 plus miss, and a 40-49 miss. 10 touchbacks on 82 kickoffs.
The Raiders have the 2 best legs in the league...Janikowski and Lechler after them, it's all down hill!
Well they (especially Lechler) get a lot of practice playing for that garbage team. It's a shame they don't actually play for competitive teams - both could help out a number of teams in this league.
When I first saw this thread title I thought it was about how Feely enjoys music sung by people like Bob Dylan and James Taylor. On topic, the reason Janikowski seems more inconsistent than other kickers is that he makes more attempts from 40+ than anyone else. Over his career he is 138/149 (92.6%) inside the 40, better than (for example) Feely's 163/182 (89.6%). He's averaged almost 1 kick per game from 40+ yards over his career (143 in 156 games), much more than Feely (101 in 143 games)
If Feely truly wants to stay here, then money should not be an issue when it really comes down to it.
I meant for the amount he may be looking for. I want him back regardless of what they pay him, whether it is more or less.
I would be very comfortable with Feely kicking for us next season. I think they are just doing their "due diligence" here. However, if Feely is holding out for a serious paycheck, then he might not be a Jet come opening day
Oh, from the team's perspective...yeah it shouldn't as far as next year goes. The sticking point may be the length of the contract.
But honestly who would be even willing to give him Janikowski type money even slightly lower is beyond ridiculous
No one, but he was signed to almost 1.5 mil guaranteed last year so it shouldn't be too difficult to see where his mind's at. Even Janikowski getting Janikowski-type money is a bit ridiculous.
