Ok, lets say we let TJ walk and now we're left with a questionable Leon Washington and an injury prone(jurys still out)Greene.
Do you take a shot signing a guy like Westbrook who isn't an everydown back anymore and could be productive in a rotation with our guys?
And if not then where do we go to fill the void?
Just curious what you guys think.

I don't think TJ is going anywhere. Granted he's due to make almost 6mm in base and bonus', but he's not gonna get that in free agency either. They're gonna work it out this weekend at the combine. TJ and Rosenhaus know there is no market for a soon to be 32 year old running back. They'll meet in the middle and settle on a lesser price.

That said. In the event that I'm wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets went for someone like Willie Parker. I think he'll make a good back up for Greene.

I don't think Westbrook would be a good guy. I think we'd want another back that is similar to TJ. Westbrook is an older Leon and is way too injury prone.

I hear the Saints are letting Mike Bell walk.
Just as a point of information.

If we sign a Westbrook/LT kind of guy a its going to be very short contract with probably an option to keep them.

Worst case scenario we just lose some money in an uncapped year. If Rex thinks any of these older cut vets can provide anything to us (even if just experience and insight to Greene) we have little to lose. Plus the upside to these guys could be absolutely tremendous.

LT and Westbrook had great careers playing with mediocre offensive lines, who knows what playing behind our probowl laced line could do to these guys.

Not to mention these guys both played for teams for a long time that they BOTH cared about and wanted to remain a part of. These guys are going to be incredibly motivated to show their old teams they arent done. I dont know if either of their stories would be as succesful as Favres stint with the vikings, but I wouldnt doubt a highly motivated individual with talent.

I think Tannebaum gets us a 3rd or 4th round pick with a trade. If it's a third, Gerhart, Blount and Matthews could be options.

It's looking more and more like we are going to release Jones...it will be before March 9th if it does happen.

If the FO isn't confident in Greene and Leon's durability they won't cut T Jones in the first place. With no cap, we can actually afford to keep TJ around with no liability. I doubt they're interested in Westbrook.

A 3rd rounder? Ha, we traded our 2nd round pick (early in the 2nd) for the Bears 2nd round pick (late in the 2nd) and TJ, that was three years ago. We wont get more then a 7th rounder now.

Lets see if we can work something with TJ contract wise, his leadership is huge!

Why would we sign Westbrook if we are worried about our other backs being injury prone?

an uncapped year means never having to say your sorry.

sign westbrook AND LT AND bell AND whoever else. Come draft day dangle one or all of them to move up one or two spots in the late rounds, then whack them or keep some.

I think out of all the back that were cut or are going to be cut LT would be the best option if your deciding not to keep TJ. I actually think LT has a 2 years left in his tank. He just needs a good offensive line, a good FB in Richardson, and at least 2 change of pace RBs in Greene and Washington. He can still fit in some of the offensive schemes that Shotty wants to work with just remember Shotty did work with LT during his time in SD. LT can throw the ball can catch out the backfield and can still catch on the run. Add him in to the mix with Sanchez, Keller, Edwards, Cotch, and the OLine and you have you self a good fix for about 2 seasons thats about it. At least that gives you time to go into the draft weather it be this year next or the year after that to draft another RB.

But my opinion is that LT would be the best fit if we didn't keep TJ but like me say again that is for a short time. I say is to take a gamble in the draft or undrafted rookie gamble. As long as its not like a gamble like the broncos did with Maurice Clarett.

    How about Lendall White?

For what exactly? When did I say trade Jones for a 3rd in this thread?

If Leon and Greene are injury prone, why bring in Westbrook who's twice as injury prone as them?

I was wondering if people thought that since he would be rotating in with SG and LW that maybe he wouldn't take as big a beating and maybe be a pretty good option out of the backfield.
Out of all our options and the players available i'd still rather have TJ. To bad it doesn't seem the Jets feel the same way.

He rotates with McCoy and still takes a beating.

The man is one concussion away from truly serious brain damage that he can't come back from.

    he's not worth it.

I would, however, like to be in the running for Chester Taylor if he's a UFA. He'd love to come to a team with a stronger OL than the Vikes, and a more secure QB position.... and a better coach, city, training facility, etc....... holy fuck, every free agent should want to play here.

How is it that everyone misses that point?

Chester Taylor is definitely someone I would like to see the Jets look into, however I think we might be restricted by the final 8 rules.

Mike Bell would be legit. Good runner, young, and doesn't mind splitting time.
