Re-Watching games, and focusing on just Revis is unreal. Can't believe how this guy jams, and sticks guys at the line. Don't know where his strength comes from, because the way he lays people out looks like it would require you to be 270, and jacked.

Not only the surprising strength he has in outmuscling his opposing WRs, but he studies so much film that he basically recognizes the route the WR is going to run off where he's lined up and off the stem of the route. It's great watching WRs going full tilt and making cuts in their route only to see Revis stick so close to them so fluently.

I heard from someone that Revis literally spends every waking second watching film (when he's not on the field obviously).

I cannot wait to see him lining up from another good CB. Barring injury, this years defense is going to be ridiculous!

Aso is a damn good corner. When grading his play you have to understand that he doesn't have anywhere near the talent surrounding him that Revis does on the Jets. Revis has significantly better talent around him in the secondary and has MUCH better talent up front. People here point to the handful of occasions that Rhodes let down Revis in coverage and made him look bad; how many times a game do you think that happens to Asomugha?

No corner is truly a shutdown coverage man with the one exception of Deion Sanders. Revis did give up receptions this season, most notably to Reggie Wayne and Peyton, and Aso found himself victimized by both the other Manning and the other Steve Smith :)

Both are AMAZING defensive backs and you can make a legitimate argument for either being the best corner in the game. It's obvious who you are going to back in that argument, but don't let your own preference keep you from giving credit where credit is due. It's beyond crazy to deny Nmandi's talent.

FWIW, I think Aso is the better of the two but only by the slightest of margins and I firmly believe it's an argument you can go either way with; their is no wrong decision simply a matter of preference. Both are amazing and both are Hall of Fame players in the making. I don't mean to rain on everyone's parade and by no means am I trying to say that Revis is a bad player; but some of you have on some awfully thick green glasses on. Revis is arguably the best defensive player in the league, but it's kind of ridiculous to say that he's easily better than Asomugha and that it's plainly obvious to see that.

We find it easy to say he is better, because Asomugha refuses to follow his receiver all over the field.

And Revis is a shutdown corner, and D. Sanders didn't have defenses like Asomugha had. Also the Raiders defense isn't horrible. They don't show up every Sunday. Why? Coz who the fuck would? They have put on some good defensive performances this year though.

Edit: Also the main reason this defense was ranked #1 was because of Darrelle Revis. Rex Ryan would not of been able to do 70% of what he did this year if he did not have Revis.

Hell the Jets Defense can't even put on great pressure/sack the QB with a front 3, or 4.

On the one hand, I firmly believe that Revis is the best cornerback in football. What he did last season was literally one of the great all time performances by a modern corner.

On the other hand, some fans on this board underrate Asomugha. He has put together a string of unreal seasons on one of the worst franchises in football. Yes he only plays one side of the field, but he practically eliminates it. Revis is the best CB in football, but Aso is a clear #2 if not a #1B to Revis' 1A.

i think most people here really respect what aso has done in his career and he was unquestionably the best corner in the league before this past season. revis was about as close to perfect as you can ever expect one player to be over the course of a full schedule. aso only covers one side of the field which means teams can put their number 1 on the other side and just throw that way all game long which is a reason why aso appears to eliminate one side of the field. he truly is a great talent but nobody could come close to the performance revis put on last year.

that my friend is technique. some CB's can get a good Jam based off of strength alone but any route runner will eventually slip past them.

Revis also studies different WR's techniques for beating the press off the line. some WR's do it with a quick move at the line before they break route, others will try to swim move right past.

he also has a elite perception on leverage(this is vital) when to apply more pressure within ten yards or when to let them make the cut in their route letting them think theyre open before he uses his recovery speed to make them look foolish.

They wouldn't be Raiders fans if they said Revis was better..what do you expect? To prove my point just look at what most Jets fans are saying here.

I think Revis had a better season than Nnamdi, but you have to wonder how good Aso would be with the type of coaching that Revis had in 2009. NA, to me, is clearly the better athlete, and he has very good awareness and ballhawk skills, but he's not really in the position to succeed like Revis is.

Al Goddammit Davis had to rain on my dream of seeing which one was better while playing oppo each other in Jets uniforms.
