I feel its important that we learn about our new Free Safety Brodney Pool. Many have thrown him away as possible star in our D and have felt there is a huge gap at the saftey position even with him there. I think if he stays healthy he'll be one of the bigger surprises of the defense next season. Quick Bio: Age: 25 Height and Weight: 6'2, 210 lbs Career Stats: 5 year Pro, Games-71 , Sacks- 4 , Tackles- 203 , Assists- 46, Interceptions- 11 , Int Td's- 1 , ForcedFumbles- 2, Pass Defenced- 35 Heres a couple facts on Brodney that interest me and hopefully yourselves: Pool attended Westbury High School where, as a senior, he was ranked one of the top defensive backs in the nation by most recruiting services. During his senior season, he had 75 tackles and 11 interceptions as a safety. As a running back, he rushed 40 times for 159 yards (3.975 yards per carry avg.) and 2 touchdowns, and received 3 passes for 112 yards (37.34 yards per reception avg.) and 2 touchdowns. As a junior, he had 114 tackles and four interceptions. Pretty damn impressive that he played RB and was excellent at it maybe a possible backup? Going on to college Pool played his career in Oklahoma and racked up 9 interceptions, two sacks, 171 tackles (15 for losses), 15 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. In his final year, he was an Associated Press All-Big 12 Conference choice. Brodney also is extremely involved in community organizations as well. In Cleveland Pool set up "Pool's Posse" which worked with schools with children that had special needs but worked hard in school and could have the chance to see the Browns in action and enjoy a great day with the team that included food ,drink, and their own T-shirts. Pool worked with 5 different schools in the Cleveland area to reward pupils who worked hard in schools. Brodney was also involved in countless Children Clinical Hospitals helping out organizations like " Toys 4 Tots" and many food banks for them and there family's. Seems as he is a great role model for younger Jets fans and its always great to have a guy with high morals that reflect onto the surrounding community. Now to the field, here are some highlight videos and an ending interview with Brodney: Carson Palmer Intercepted: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81320f86/Brodney-Pool-INT Jay Cutler Intercepted: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-...467a3/WK-10-Can-t-Miss-Play-Cutler-throws-INT Interview: http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/04/12/film-room-brodney-pool/ ( Sorry couldnt post videos dont know how to post without being a youtube vid) As you can see Brodney is a player and team is extremely important to him, he seems to be grateful to be a Jet and i hope for a great season for him as well as this Jets defense!
i love this pick up, this guy brings a big talent to our defense and as long as he can stay healthy we have a great FS
Here's some scouting reports for any who are interested: http://www.thejetsblog.com/2010/03/12/scouting-report-brodney-pool/
Exactly being that solid of a safety on a comical Browns defense is exceptional and with the new acquisitions in the secondary and possible draft help we can potentially see this kid blossom to an even better FS. Theres soo much potential its scary. Lets hope he stays off the IR
Im actually surprised many dont, which made me make this thread to have some jump on the "Brodney Wagon" and have a good reason besides just him being a Jet.
Thanks for the post. I don't know much about the guy so he intrigues the hell out of me, I can't wait to see what he's got. Gotta be better than Rhodes last year right??
The guy is one hit away from a vegetative state. I wouldn't get my hopes above cautiously optimistic.
At least the guy hits, kerry rhodes would never hit anybody, it was absurd how many times he would pull up. Just his willingness to tackle has me excited. He's put up decent numbers in interception, sack, ff, and fr. As long as he doesn't get knocked out for the season I can live with him missing a 2-4 games or so.
Thats what im here for glad to have given you some solid info. But to answer your question YES YES YES YES YES he will be alot better then Rhodes, he will stop big plays when Cro loses his WR which will happen a few times this year, Rhodes on the other hand would have played flag football with him and eventually just gaven up on the play.
I like Brodney Pool he has pretty good instincts, something Rhodes lacks. Is he the future? I don't know he could be if he is healthy though I wouldn't hold my breath. He is a under the radar move that could provide better production then originally thought. The one negative about this move is he will probably be a starter so there is definitely some risk based on his injury history. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if he drafted another safety to compete with him and the others.
Guys like Major Wright, Nate Allen, or Kam Chancellor can be drafted around the second round and are true Free Safeties, we could always draft one of them to develop with the help of Rex and have potential to be future star starters.
Thanks for this awesome info. I was getting all excited until I saw that he's had 4 concussions. Ouch. Like someone said he's one head shot away from ending his career. If we use him it should only be on passing downs.
I was in favor of this move from the start. As long as he's healthy he's better than Rhodes. My only concern is his concussions. He claims they've been overstated, but who knows, and as is always the case with concussions, one always makes you more susceptible to the next. If he doesn't get get hurt though, look for very good things from our secondary.
Did you watch the interview? He claims he only had one concussion and that was on the first play he ever played in the NFL. He has migraines that runs in his family. He claims he is "hindered" because of the NFL's policy on concussions. But he has only had one.
Happy you caught his comments on injuries in the video as well. For all who are concerned i suggest to watch that interview he seems confident in his words.
