SOJ will never be history until we start becoming a consistent ball club. One year of winning, while some may think it does, really does not change that.
I'm with you. Not necessarily praising the Patriots, but can we do better than 9-7 and actually win the division one time before we claim to be the AFC East's next dynasty?
Sorry disagree. Consistency, yes, we need that. But the teams philosophy has changed and SOJ has no place in it, thats a fact. We may not have won anything, (still) but its the always moving to better the team approach that has me convinced we are on the verge of great things
They don't have a place but SOJFs will still be here. Just wait until one thing goes wrong and they'll flip in a second.
Every team goes through that, but when it happens to us, its SOJs ? nah, I think most fans have moved on and don't recognise that BS anymore.
SOJ's is just for chronic complainers and people like champ with a constant ax to grrind. Most teams almost never win a Super Bowl, it doesn't make them all garbage. The Jets have mostly been a good, competitive playoff team since Bill Parcells arrived in 1997. There have been a few off and injury-filled years, but overall we've been pretty good.
How do 4 picks in the first two rounds translate into the Pats being "the team to beat"?? Lets look at some history of the Patriots first two rounds picks in the last three drafts: Pat's 2009 Draft: 2a Pat Chung 34 SS Oregon 2b Ron Brace 40 DT Boston College 2c Darius Butler 41 CB Connecticut 2d Sebastian Vollmer 58 OL Houston Pat's 2008 Draft: 1 Jerod Mayo 10 LB Tennessee 2 Terrence Wheatley 62 CB Colorado Pat's 2007 Draft: 1 Brandon Meriweather 24 S Miami (Fla.) NOW VERY IMPORTANT - Remember we are talking about the team to beat NEXT year so we can only look at these draft picks rookie year performace to see what type of impact their 4 picks this year will have on the Pats this season. Brandon Meriweather - While a pro-bowler in 2009 in his rookie year largely just played on special teams and as the teams #3 Safety. He finished his rookie campaign with 28 tackles. - Nothing to write home about Terrence Wheatley - 6 tackles in two years. NEXT Jerod Mayo - 128 total tackles (100 solo, 28 assists) and a forced fumble - Rookie of the year - Alright ONE guy had a definite impact his rookie year, more then any free agent off the street would have. Sebastian Vollmer - Nine starts as an injury replacement, a good injury stop gap in his first year. Darius Butler - Started 5 games as CB, 3 INT, 35 tackles, decent showing but not a giant contribution. Ron Brace - 8 tackles, YAWN Pat Chung - 37 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 1 INT - Again, decent but not any sort of game changing rookie So there you have it, in the last three years they have had 7 picks in the first two rounds. Out of those 7, 4 made a marginal positive impact, 2 did nothing, and 1 made a legitimate impact on his team his ROOKIE year. So, since your argument was that they have not brought in any big free agents because they are waiting for that impact in the draft (which is completely not sound, drafting is for the future not for the season at hand -- any input from rookies is a bonus) I still don't understand your "Patriots are the team to beat" message. Face it, there is no Patriots magic. They are not gonna hit on a Randy Moss for a fourth rounder type trade again. Their veteran free agents, that they used to be so good at squeezing out a few more decent years from (I.E. Cory Dillon) last year were Fred Taylor and Joey Galloway, who contributed nothing. The Jets have way less to prove then the Patriots. We were in the AFC championship game!?! We are a young and talented team, so don't get caught up in the Patriots mystique, they are a middle of the road team restocking their roster. Lets be very real, the Patriots didn't exactly dominate the division last year, if the Dolphins or Jets would have played just a little better they would have lost the division for the second year in a row. I can not in good faith let a fellow Jet fan drink the Patriot Kool-Aid. I'm not stupid, I don't think the Jets are going to go 16-0, but you can not tell me you actually think the Patriots as of today (including their 4 futute picks) are a better team then the Jets?
????? The draft response was aimed at you saying the Pats did nothing. They feel they don't need to make a move bc of their voluminous amount of picks. Second, above is the worst argument I've ever read. A. How do various individual rookie performances have any affect on the incoming class? B The majority of those picks you list are specialty positions. Some positions like QB and WR take time to develop. However if you have a learnable scheme positions like LB (Mayo) can have an immediate impact. BC their front 7 on D are getting older it would seem as though the Pats would take D which may or may not have an impact however do explain their lack of transactions. To further my argument abot specialty positions. How long did it take Revis? Took 3 years to get to shutdown. What about Vilma? He was good instantly. These are just two examples from The Jets let alone the rest of the league.
The Jets have less to prove? I think just the opposite. Everyone around the league said the Jets didn't belong in the AFC Championship; that they were handed their wins. The Jets have to PROVE those idiots wrong.
Running up the score would certainly do that. But then everyone would call us unsportsmanlike. Oh well!
You are arguing different points. Your argument is that the Patriots did not add off season talent through free agency because as you put it "their voluminous amount of picks". Okay then where is this talent going to be coming from as it pertains to NEXT YEAR?? You said many players take time to develop, and of course they do, thats my point! Free agency is for now, the draft is for the future, not this year! I said nothing about the strength of their draft picks in future seasons, just as it pertains to next year. Even if they hit big and got a rookie of the year type player on D I still take the Jets in the talent department if the Pats don't add anything else. But alas you seemed to be mystified into thinking that Bellicheck is gonna make things alright. That magically the Patriots will win the division when all signs say they are somewhat rebuilding. You my friend, are a Jets fan that has drank Billy B's Blue and Red Kool-aid.
Your reading comprehension is low. A) Players take time to develop @ skill positions, i.e. WR, CB, QB, LT...while other positions such as RB, LB, DE..can have an immediate impact. Since I believe the Patriots will draft the latter, I believe the drafted players should have an immediate impact for their team because, as I said, the Patriots have 4 picks between Round 1 and Round 2 of the draft. They will get some high caliber prospects. B) The draft is not always for the future...a lot of teams need immediate help and draft with the intentions of utilizing the players now. C) I never said the Jets wouldn't win the division, I actually believe they will. I did HOWEVER say the Patriots are the team to beat in the AFC East. I also believe the Jets have a lot to prove to the people who said they don't belong in the Patriots' class. That is a big fucking difference than what you are making it out to be. Please read more carefully.
Last time I checked... AFC East champ was the Patriots. It's absurd to think they are NOT the team to beat as of yet - they have won the division for the lion's share during the past decade if at all. If anybody thinks adding a few good players on the team elevates that said team to the 'team-to-beat' status, then they are completely delusional - it's only April, and there's a full season of football to be played.
Who gives a shit if you win? Run it up! *Especially if they can run it up on Pats' arse, they MUST do it. I'd really, REALLY love to see 56-7 Jets win against those cheating bastards.*
Don't worry guys. Pete Prisco has it all figured out. Fuck this guy is a knob. Tom Brady. That's it. Seriously? PriscoCBS Dolphins and Jets have been aggressive this off-season. Props. But guess what? Pats still best team. Why? tom Brady. It's a QB league.
