Yeah I agree on that. The more I get excited about next year the more I'm trying to tamp things down so I don't wind up crushed if the ceiling falls in like 1999. I really like the state of the Jets at the moment however there are so many things that could go wrong that things like the LT signing that make no real sense begin to loom larger in the picture.

the one thing about 1999 is that injuries killed the season.

If injuries kill a season its not as devastating as bad play or worse coaching. injuries are part of the game, and if enough key players go down its just a lost season, not a disappointing one in terms of meeting the expectation of that given year. Injuries are uncontrollable. Bad play and coaching are things that can be corrected.... or at least in my head that's how I rationalize it.

Aside from the injuries, the other thing about 1999 was the clear picture that it was the last ride for that group. Hess had already died, which meant the skids were even more greased for Parcells than a normal year and Vinny, in addition to being out all year, was already in his mid 30s. Of course that would also be the last year for Keyshawn, who as a #1 overall pick was a huge part of the franchise's turnaround, and Belichick also walked away at the end to New England.

This time around we have Rex Ryan just on the way in and not looking to leave. With Sanchez we also have a QB who on the way in and a lot more foundation in place for the franchise as a whole, like the Florham Park facility, the new stadium, etc. Nothing is guaranteed, but a deeper look into it to me shows a lot more stability now than we had then. It doesnt strike me as all or bust like it did then.
