Now that the draft is over, w/o Leon who do you think the Jets put back there, I personally think think they will put Joe Mcknight at PR and probly Kyle Wilson at KR but personally i would rather have Brad Smith at KR
B. Smith will be the KR and Wilson will be the PR... they are two very good returners! We also have some other very good returners (both P and K) so I'm confident with whoever wins the job...
Personally, you don't know what you're talking about because Wilson isn't a kick returner. Kyle Wilson is a punt returner - one of the best that I've seen. He'll make an immediate impact returning punts. Titus Young was Boise's kick returner, not Wilson. Brad Smith was a pretty good kick returner last season. I think that's where his value is. He can be a package quarterback and a return specialist. Joe McKnight will probably get a chance to win the kick return job, but Smith is proven...so I'm not sure if he'll be able to do that. McKnight has a lot of experience returning punts, but Wilson is the better option early in their careers.
The real question is who will run the "wildcat" and what will it be called? With Leon gone it should no longer be called the "seminole" (editorial: is that slang for semen hole?). Some suggestions: McKnight = the Trojan (different formations could be called ribbed, magnum, and tickler) A.Cromartie = the BabyMaker J.Conner = the Prophet Gholston = (its invisible)
Kyle Wilson was the #1 PR in the nation last year so that's a definite upgrade over Leonhard and Cotchery. I'm pulling for McKnight to become the KR because he was practically brought in to replace Leon. Brad Smith did well for us last season but I think he's a little overrated because of that one score. Smith used to block for Leon on returns so he can do the same for McKnight. Holmes is too valuable to be a returner when we have Wilson who's at least as talented.
I know the second part is a joke...but that formation has always been Brad Smith's, the entire value from it is that Smith can throw the ball from it, something Leon cannot do.
Obviously Wilson returns punts, but KR is a bit more difficult. I'm certain it'll be McKnight and Smith back there, but I'd prefer to see McKnight as the primary returner so we can get Brad Smith back to being one of the league's best lead blockers.
speaking of giants drafted one so feagles may become available. knows those north jersey winds pretty well.
Why the hate for Cotchery as a punt returner? Obviously he's not the most explosive guy, and Wilson will probalby be the front runner for the job, but J-Co was actually really good last year. He was 9th in the NFL in average yards per return with 10.3. He was much better then Leonhard.
ive read that hes contemplating it but havent heard anything definite. this would be an ideal stituation for him to come into with his being familiar with the elements/ playing in ny and us being legitamate sb contenders. plus if anyone could convince him to come out for one more year its rex and trader mike.
...and Mike Westhoff's scheme. This is a hell of a write up that I just found: http://www.ganggreennation.com/2009/12/31/1228877/jets-special-team-tds-under-mike All of the return TDs under Westhoff People are bitching about losing a kick returner when we've ALWAYS had success returning kicks, no matter who's back there. The Jets have the best special teams coach in the league.
Wilson will definitely be the PR. KR should be either McKnight or Smith. (Conner is going to be an awesome ST blocker)
