I don't think anyone would be upset if you just made a couple of useless posts just to get to that 10 post mark sooner than later. We want it now!
Leonhard has returned punts for a few years and is good at it. Wilson/McKnight have the skills to be effective return men. Who do you want returning kicks/punts? do you want guys that are strictly STers taking up roster spots? Remmeber how great of a PR Aaron Glenn was in college? he was terrible in the NFL but was a really good KR. I expect the same from Kyle although I would expect he'll be in the PR mix as well.
I already posted who I wanted at KR and PR but just to humor you: KR: McKnight/Brad Smith PR: Wilson/McKnight/Lowery We have plenty of options that aren't starting, captain SSs who make all of the defensive alignment calls to return punts.
Way to take that one way out of proportion. Why risk him getting injured doing a second job when there are other guys who don't start and can possibly do a better job at it?
He's averaged 9.6 per PR in his career, that's not bad. so you are ok w/ risking a potential future starting corner but not w/ risking leonhard? we aren't talking about putting Sanchez back to return punts. Jim is sure handed back there and that is more important to me than an extra yard on his average.
Ughhh, Jesus fuck, Junc, one of Wilson's best attributes is his hands, he was a former All-State WR in high school for fucks sake. Where is this sure-fired assumption that Wilson is going to fumble? Yea, Leonhard is sure-handed but he's also the defensive captain and sets the secondary. Wilson is the Nickel Back at best. For right now, Leonhard is the more important player which is why right now, Wilson is the one who will be returning punts. Losing him would be less of a blow to the defense and Rex himself alluded to it as being his job.
you do understand the NFL is different than college, right? there are a million great college return guys who couldn't do it in the NFL. I don't know if he can or can't but to act like we need to protect Leonhard is silly. He's a tough guy who is used to returning kicks, if Wilson can do it then great but I am not shying away from using leonhard b/c I am worried he's going to get hurt.
I'd rather our PR be cautious tha take foolish risks. Maybe that was coaching too? Cotch had a million FCs too.
There were a million great college CBs who couldn't do it in the NFL. That's why teams have things called "scouts" and watch "game film" and "analyze" players. Yea, they get it wrong but there's a reason these guys get tryouts in the first place. You would be a terrible coach. Leonhard already suffered from a broken hand and groin injuries last season. Why pile on his workload?
I would be a terrible coach:rofl: you'd have the softest team in the league and it would be full of draft busts playing b/c of where they were drafted. I don't believe leonhard had any injuries from his PRs and they took the job away from him when he was hurt last year. That doesn't mean he should never return punts again. If the rookie proves he can do it and do it better than Leonhard w/o putting the ball on the ground i'd put him back there but I wouldn't shut out the idea of leonhard returning punts again especially since he is reliable back there. You do realize that most drafted players do not pan out, right? You seem to think b/c we draft a certain player that he will be a good player. The draft is a crapshoot no matter what the scouting report. That's how we get Vernon Gholston's taken in the top 5
watching these videos just makes me piss Leon more rarely do you get a player with that natural flare on KR/PR. Leon was one of those guys. Doesn't Wilson just look a bit...slow? in these videos?
Welcome to the asinine zoo, ladies and gentlemen. Our next stop on the tour is the classic "draft hater" who looks at draft busts and then assumes the whole system is flawed and worthless. The draft hater frequently fails to realize that the NFL is not comprised entirely of undrafted free agents. The draft hater typically prefers to believe that there is no actual basis for the reasons players are drafted and that good NFL players enter the league by merely appearing out of thin air and are then later signed as free agents.
I'm not going to suggest we need to protect Leonhard from injury, but I don't want him returning punts. With the rotation we have in place opposite him, I want him on the field as much as possible at the safety position, and with the number of punts we hope/expect to force next season, that's a handful of plays that we can take advantage of to get him off the field. I'd go with Wilson unless, as you say, he proves his return ability doesn't translate to the NFL. A few preseason games should at least show whether we need to think about rotating them to start. I suspect Wilson earns the job outright.
