Hiring Herm and Bradway are the absolute 2 worst decisions of the last 10-12 years. It wasted the peak years of several teams that were good enough to win it all. Herm could not coach his way out of a paper bag. He was just garbage. If I wanted to ruin a team, destroy its foundation and just make horrible game plans he would be the first guy I would call. Hey but at least he could motivate. Bradway was a shitty GM. Life is full of guys that choke or can not handle the top spot. They are more suited to be in the background. Bradway is a shining example, he is like an Weis, Crennel or a Norv Turner. The combo of Bradway and Herm is like getting poisoned where the poison takes 3 years to kill you. Sure you are fine for the 2.99 years then all of a sudden blam. All their awful decisions just accumulate and you're fucked.
----Rich Kotite---- nothing else mentioned so far beats Kotite as the wost ALL TIME Jets move.. yes i know this one is older the 10 years..
Gholston is easily the worst--close second is Robertson only reason being Bradway would have screwed up those 2 picks had he kept em-----this said Gholston is the best thing to ever happen to BLAIR THOMAS as Blair takes a backseat to the Ghost!! Honorable mention and yes it is more than 10 years but how about Drafting Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp???? I was at the Allstar cafe that day and having a beer with Glenn Foley while on the screen people in radio city were booing the Brady pick and Kyle was a nice kid and just said all the rite things.
Gotta disagree that Ghost is worse than Robertson. In terms of drafting opportunity cost, the '08 Draft is looking like a flop at the top especially for pass-rushers (Harvey). Although Rivers would've been a nice addition he's not a great fit to play the 3-4 OLB, and his roster addition would've likely crowded out either Scott or Harris. In '03, defensively, the Jets missed out on Kevin Williams and Suggs near the top. If not for trading up, they could've still managed to pick either Polamalu or Pace instead of picking a LB and S in the 2nd and 5th, respectively.
Signing Brett Favre and having to watch that selfish drama queen ruin an entire season was the most consistently disappointing thing the Jets have done in the past 10 years. The silver lining to that fiasco could be that it led to Ryan as HC. Still, I have never felt as ambivalent towards the Jets in 45 years of rooting for them as I did in that final game against the Dolphins in 2008 watching Pennington beat the Jets and Favre throw the game away. Seeing him run off the field faster than I ever seen him run at the minute that game ended, as if fired from a cannon, was disgusting. Hearing his pre-game motiviational speech afterwards made we want to throw up. The Favre signing made no sense whatsoever.
Pennington's kneel-down to kill time against Pittsburgh. We lost two yards, and the field goal hit the crossbar.
Actually, the field goal missed wide by 10-15 yards. The prior attempt by Brien hit the crossbar. Brien was not even close with the attempt you mention after the kneel down.
i agree, but also disagree, that 08 team, if coached well, and if favre doesnt get hurt, could have done some damage in the playoffs. how soon people forget, we were a 4-12 team, until favre showed up. people also forget, that we were 8-3 in 08, and had just beaten 2 of the best teams in the afc on the road, jenkins went down, and so did everybody else, including an injured favre.
My top ten of all time would be: 1. Rich Kotite hired for HC. 2. Letting Bill Belichick get away. Say what you will but he has the rings. 3. Lou Holtz hired for HC. 4. Dewayne Robertson drafted by the New York Jets fourth overall in the 2003 NFL Draft. He cost us the #4 overall which we paid two 1st round picks and a 4th to move up. The reason he is so high is also related to the mad ammount of money he was paid and that he didn't last in the NFL. 5. Johnny "Lam" Jones, New York Jets send the 49ers two first-round picks in the 1980 NFL draft in exchange for the No. 2 overall selection. Then they made Jones the 1st player to break the $2 million dollar mark. 6. Blair Thomas drafted (2 Overall) by the New York Jets in the 1st round of the 1990 NFL Draft. 7. Ron Faurot (you say who), drafted by the New York Jets in the 1st round of the 1984 NFL Draft. Didn't even last two seasons in the NFL. 8. Roger Vick, drafted by the New York Jets in the 1st round of the 1987 NFL Draft. 9. Herman Edwards hired for HC. 10. Johnny Mitchell, drafted by the New York Jets in the 1st round of the 1992 NFL Draft. Honorable mention goes to Eric Mangini being hired for HC. I left out Vernon Gholston, for the fact he is still on the team and we have made a hail marry change of position which could prove positive. As a Gholston doubter I believe in two years he will be on this list.
I would say taking Mike Nugent with a high second round pick, and trading out of the first to get that pick. They passed on Heath Miller and settled with Doug Jolley. That was honestly the last time they did something where I 100% knew they fucked up.
I think this one pisses me off more than any other decision made in the last 10 years. Herm was incompetent, drafting Nuge in the 2nd was a joke and DRob was a disappointment, but trading Kendall when they did destroyed that season, Clemens' career and I think, both directly and indirectly, set the franchise back another 2 years just when things were looking up.
