No one's offended that he wants to get paid. I think everyone agrees that he deserves to be paid. It's a matter of how much he wants to get paid. He's basing his salary demands off an absurd contract. He wants a salary that will potentially cripple the franchise in an uncertain climate with the CBA & Salary Cap in limbo. All that, while he still has three years remaining on his current contract. That's why people get offended.
1) There have been plenty of 'absurd' contracts in the past that have set the market. The only difference it that this one is affecting the Jets. 2) Getting offended by a football player getting a historic contract is absurd in itself. Some people need to take a step back from the sport if it's that much of a part of their lives that player contracts make them feel offended. That's like getting angry at Tom Cruise for cashing a 20mil check for making an excellent movie. Don't enjoy the product and then begrudge the guy his paycheck in a market that justifies it. This kind of stuff is fun for conversational fodder, but getting offended about it is ridiculous.
Have you actually READ the Revis threads over the past few weeks. There is so much irrational panic and so many irrational reactions in those threads... it's funny. And pathetic. As far as how much he wants... can you blame him? He's the best. Period.
The gays are angry at him for not coming out of the closet. I can see your point the Jets fans mad at Revis are queers.... bravo! Excellent vailed comment.........
Whether to promote the article or not, he speaks the truth. I just wish all the attention wasn't directed towards Revis these days...
well let's see... when you're this good, people reach out to you to do those things. You have people who also promote your personal brand, and that mini orchestra makes more money for you. Also, when has there been any report that his work ethic has diminished? Peyton Manning did 800 commercials and an episode of SNL, still won a ring and went to another SB. Revis is fine.
And we were told the 20 Million report was bullshit, and he wants 16.2 which is just fine. Its more than Nnamdi but he's better than Nnamdi and every year contracts go up. Its now an issue of guaranteed money. Revis and the Jets know how much he's worth, its a matter of how much of its guaranteed at this point.
with crom and wilson sitting there as POTENTIAL shut down corners, tanny would be crazy to lock the jets into an absurd contract for a player we may not even need in two years. someone should remind revis the last man who walked on water didn't make out too well.
ill bet that rex talks less about how great his players are this year. at least singling them out as the best he has ever seen. but everyone loved how he talked too much, they also loved how he kept telling revis he was the best. then they started believing it and so did revis. so NOW we the fans must talk bad about him so when he leaves we can say he wasnt that good anyway. sports fans are like women.
If I were Tanny, I would wait another year to pay the man. Revis is an outstanding CB, although the stats didn't really show that. You won't have gawdy stats if nobody throws your way. I would have him play another year to make sure it's not a fluke, and pay him next offseason.
Except for passes defended which he lead the league in, but for the most part you are correct. He'd get paid a ton to have no stats basically- That's one makes the great corners great.
I agree. It's sort of like Miami is doing with Randy Starks. He got moved to NT, and his main job is to entertain blockers to let the others produce the stats. Revis won't see many balls thrown his way, just like Namdi and other great corners. I will say though, Cro will be tested a LOT this season with Revis on the opposite side.
Revis played at an extremely high level in 2008 also, only difference was that it was really avoid him in 2008 because the other CB spot was getting abused
He's a cornerback. He's the best defender in football the same way that Keith Hernandez was the best defender in baseball - at a position of marginal importance defensively.
The only people who think like this are incapable of separating football from their own personal lives. Rex should and will keep talking because the team eats that up and wants to play hard for him. The only fans bashing Revis are jealous that he makes more money in 3 hours of work than they do all year. Life isn't fair and the sooner people realize and accept that the sooner they can stop whining about professional sports contracts.
Did you see anything about Rex's defense? That position is quite possibly the most important in our defense. Having Revis opens up all the other players to attack or hopefully this year, ballhawk.
You are using conventional football wisdom to explain positional importance in a very unconventional defense.
