The problem here is that Harris at his prime only compares favorably to a greatly diminished Ray Lewis.

I'm starting to look forward to us blowing a lead in the fourth quarter.

That way when Jet nation declares the sky is falling at least it will be football related :p

I don't understand the hatred toward Revis the football player. There is business side to every sport and I feel the fans should not take it personally.

Revis the football player is one hell of a corner in this league.

Revis the football player is a cornerstone in the defense.

REvis the football player should be paid accordingly.

Revis the football player and his agent will attempt anything to get him the most they possibly can.

Mike T is NOT going to let Revis back the truck up to the vault and give him the keys. He has a team to worry about. Let them work it out. I'm sure in due time it will all be worked out.

As for what he spends his money on, who the hell cares as long as he shows up to work every Sunday.

This whole dispute is on Revis. He was told he would get a new deal. It was Revis who turned that into a demand to be the highest paid CB in the NFL. He was not promised that by the Jets. He has three years left on his contract. He can't do anything to get out of those three years. If he does not report by August 10th, he loses a year of service towards free agency. Add in the limits on new contracts imposed by the uncapped year and you can see how Revis is being completely unreasonable and unrealistic. Every team in the NFL is going through this with their top players - Manning, Chris Johnson, Brady, Vincent Jackson, etc. If these players want contracts, they should tell the union leadership to reach a deal on a new CBA. Until that happens, NFL teams are not going to break the bank and risk blowing through a future salary cap, paying a contract when there may be no football next year, or disrupting their salary structure for one player. If Revis is going to use Aso's contract as a measuring stick, imagine what other Jets are going to do with Revis' deal if he gets what he wants. You can kiss any hope of the Jets being a long-term contender good bye. Revis is being a complete selfish ass.

Those that are saying the Jets should pay up have no concept of what it means to run a team with the rules that are or will be in place. Yes, we all want to see Revis on the field and yes we all recognize his talent. But let's put this in perspective. He is a three year player who had one great season. He signed a very rich rookie contract and has earned millions already.

If the Washington injury is fully or partly motivating his stance then he is dumber than I thought. Washington is in the situation he is in because he didn't sign a contract and wanted more money. If Revis is truly afraid of the same thing happening to him, he should sign the long-term deal giving him $10-12 million a year and be done with everything. Instead, he raises Washington, but at the same time claims he wants to be the highest paid CB in the league and will accept no less. Sounds like Washington asking for Sproles/MJD money and leaving a reasonable deal on the table unsigned.

After going through the disgusting James spectacle the past few weeks, I am tired of the selfish athlete thing.

he has the ability to pull his family out of a bad neighborhood and secure their future.

I'd do the same for my family.

Revis lived on his moms couch growing up, he never had a bed. When you grow up like that, you give back.

He didn't get them out already?

Perhaps you missed, "Maybe with his rookie contract he could have helped out his parents and siblings with a house and car(s)."

Its a common occurance amoung pro athlete's. A former Buffalo Saber who made 3.9 mill on his rookie contract was flat broke at the end of the deal because he bought a home for his parents, brother, himself, and help bail a couple of other family mambers out of some extreme debt. Sometimes they need to learn to say no.

Granted i'm with you, if I was making that kind of money my Dad's house would be paid off in an instant. After that though I'm sure I would be beating the obscure family I have not seen in years away with a very large stick.

I am not knowledgable on the exact amount of money Revis has already made, but I think he's made over 10 million already. That should have been enough to get his immediate family out of Shitsville and into a nice condo or house which Revis could have paid cash for.

When multimillionaires make comments about needing to feed their families it comes off as ridiculous to us regular folk.

That said, I'm fine with Revis holding out for a while this summer. Try to get more money, fine. Just don't bring up this needing to feed the family bullshit.

What makes it worse is that he should know what it's like to struggle for money and what it really means to struggle to put food on the table. For him to say something like that now that he makes millions of dollars is just wrong.

NFL Network is reporting that Revis will not miss a day of camp according to his people because doing so would possibly void the $20 million buyback option.

His people bluffed and the Jets called it. Game over.

This is getting out of hand I just want a deal to get done, Im gonna be pissed if he holds out. What bothers me about Revis is he says he is on an elite level and expects to get payed like an elite player. But then he uses are cutting/trading of players who were far from elite players when they were cut. He needs to remind himself he is too valuable to the team

    Mr D R

Fucking Jets Fans have survived without you, you're island may not be what you think, Fucking Jets fans will not like it, but we have been beat up too many times to give a shit,

If there is a fair contract, go for another 20%, but if you string this out, you may find yourself fucked.

We want you, but if you make us pay too much we may hate you.

    You are not God

Take alot of money and hope his team signs an ego maniacal douchebag?

Paying an NBA player money is easier... 12 players vs 52..do the math.

If Darrelle Revis's goal is to be the highest paid cornerback in the NFL I think he'll get there. He won't be on the Jets but he'll be the highest paid. I'm fairly sure that Washington will make a real offer if they get a whiff that Revis is really on the market and I think Seattle could be in the hunt also. Those are the owners that have the cash to pay Revis and also have a high profile new coach coming in to town this season. The Redskins also have a holdout CB in Carlos Rogers and he'd probably be part of the deal for Revis although not a major part of it.

If Darrelle Revis goal is to be on a multiple super bowl winner and also highly paid then he'll probably manage that with the Jets if Sanchez turns out to be the real deal. Revis is going to have to decide if he wants to make 12 million a year playing for a good team that highlights his skills or if he wants to make 15-16 million a year on an 8-8 squad that doesn't get to the end of the road. It's a tough call and I have no idea if he's going to force a trade or not, but I'm fairly sure the Jets aren't going to pay him the kind of money he's looking for unless somebody else firmly fixes that as the cost for all-pro cornerbacks. Even then it's too much for a good team to pay and they'd be wiser to trade him for maximum value and save the cap space for positions that actually win you championships.

Surely Revis's potential total earnings - including endorsements, advertising revenue, etc - would be higher if he was with a team like the Jets who have the potential to go to the Superbowl. He might get a higher salary with a crap team but his overall profile would be lower, so he wouldn't be able to make as much out of other revenue streams. Therefore he could be better off accepting 12m per season from the Jets and making a mint from endorsements, etc because he will be on prime time TV much more. Just a thought.

By the time he is "really on the market" he will be 3 1/2 years older than he is now. I doubt even Washington would pay that much for a CB on the downside.
