Here's where the Jets went wrong. They essentially tore up Revis' contract and said we'll do good by you trying to pre-empt. Our essential luck, Al Davis overpays every jackass in the universe, so here we are. The entire situation maddens me. I love Revis. I can't even believe he's a Jet, because this once in a life-time guy happens to everyone else. However, shut up now. It's getting tiresome. Can't you leave this stuff behind closed doors? What does it accomplish other than to annoy an entire fan base? I stopped reading the Sports section in the funny papers well over a month ago because his whining almost made me stop caring. I can't stand when players - of any sport - complain out loud. He should be paid, but dude, clam up already.
Revis is trying to re-negotiate a contract when he is in NOT in a position to......i hope Mr T puts the squeeze on Revis.......all Revis needs is a 100million$ contract...and a blue eyed blonde haired trophy wife and everything will be perfect
revis will sign before training camp. why? because tanny will tell him "it's now or it's 3 years from now". once 2010 training camp starts, tanny will pull his offer off the table. revis is greedy but not stupid. revis is posturing and wringing the towel as tight as he can until the last minute. and tanny is happy to let him twist but tanny will not over pay him like al davis did. edit: like we learned with Bricks contract, revis will get a contract that on the sufurce says 'revis is now the highest paid d-player in the nfl', so revis can high five his homies and strut around a bit, but the fine print on the back will knock it down to a very managable size.
This is a perfect summation of the situation. The only way Revis can exert leverage is by strapping on a suicide vest and threatening to trigger it, and he's going to be the only one on the spot when it blows. The Jets have made real mistakes in the process but ultimately they are not the ones at risk here, Revis is. To get out of this the Jets need to get on one page and stay there. That means Rex Ryan needs to close his mouth about the situation. It means that Mike Tannenbaum needs to make it crystal clear that he had no intention of paying an Asomugha level contract when the Jets offered to renegotiate. It means that Woody Johnson needs to just sit back and let Tannenbaum work on cleaning this up. Woody hasn't said anything that would suggest that he and Tannenbaum are split in any way on the potential decisions that are being made and will be made on the negotiation in the future. To maintain coherence in an increasingly bad situation he needs to make sure that management and ownership are speaking out of one mouth and that mouth needs to be Tannenbaums. Once the Jets are a single entity in the negotiations and Tannenbaum has made clear what the limits are then Revis will have much simpler options to look at and his ability to disrupt things to gain leverage will shrink dramatically. He'll be in put-up or shut-up territory at that point and the backpage headlines will be narrowly focused on his decision, and not on the entire meta issue of whether or not he's worth a franchise QB salary. The Jets can win the first issue, they'll never conclusively win the second if that's what the battle becomes, at least not until Aso's contract is up and we find out what comes next.
Haha I can. Its Mr.E. Anyway, you know my point. Of course I am not an elite CB. And the worst part is, as many posters have posted, a deal is going to get done. So all these talks and threats and childish moves are just a waste of time.
just saw on espn's bottom line that Revis is not going to hold out. edit:looks like i was late to the party, im glad that part of the BS is over regardless
I'm pretty sure that while Rex does not get involved with the numbers side of things, he does have something to do with the process. He was the one that told Coles that they were not going to negotiate with players that had 2 or more years left on their contracts. Totally agree with you about Rex's handling of the situation and how he handles things in general. As far as Revis - I think he deserves to be the highest paid cornerback in the league, so I guess I am biased. I don't like the way this is being handled either, it smacks of Ty Law and Sean Gilbert. Hopefully things will work out sooner rather than later.
He has 3 years on his contract left that he AGREED to. That's what pisses me off. When a player outplays their contract they go off the deep end wanting loads of money, however when a player signs a big deal and slacks off doing nothing, he continues to get paid a large salary year in and year out unless he is cut. I agree we need to resign him to keep everybody happy, but with a deal around 12 million a year that has potential to up Aso's. What would the incentives be? IDK that's not my place to say but it sounds bulletproof to me. If he thinks he's the best defender in sports then he should have no problem with that type of contract.
Surely a player should be paid not in comparison to comparable players on other teams, but in the context of his importance to the team doing the paying?
Like he had a choice? He could either report to camp or sit out and lose a yr of free agency and his $$. What a guy he is for reporting to camp. LMAO! I'm sick of people acting like this guy is a Jesus reincarnated. GTFOHWTBS
What about that post you just quoted is in any way revering or worshiping Revis? With every repetitive anti-Revis post, you lose more credibility. And you didn't really have much to speak of when you lied about knowing him.
LOL ok, you dont need to believe whether I know him or not, it's not that serious. I know what I know and it is what it is. You can choose to believe what you want.Time will tell. :breakdance:
