Yes Revis is still obligated to us for 3 years but Ryan's comments and Tanny's limited praise are being used as leverage by Revis and his people to force a new deal.Revis seems hell bent to be the #1 PAID and I do mean PAID! CB in the NFL.HBO will have plenty of material for Hard Knocks.
Yes that bit us quite a bit to be so nice as to compliment him. I think it's pretty low of him to use that against us. He should understand that Aso's deal is ridiculous and that we have a lot of talent and need to keep it together so therefore we can not afford to be paying guys 15 million a year. It's getting old but if a deal gets done, 95% of ppl here will forget all this by september...
Hopefully Chris Johnson resolving his contract standoff with the Titans will spur negotiations between Revis and the Jets. I'll be fine with bumping up his pay for this year and then working on a long term deal after the new CBA is hashed out.
Any re-working of his contract for this year would most likely void the last two years. Giving up the club's rights to him would be a horrible move on Tanny's part. I don't see it happening.
I am of the impression that 2 things are definitely not going to happen 1)Jets/Revis agree to a massive extension before the new CBA 2) Revis plays for $1 mil. If those 2 things are accurate what is the alternative to bumping his 2010 salary to get him on the field this year? (PS, I admit to not reading many posts on the Revis contract situation)
1. Revis holds out 2. Johnson moves the team to Kyoto and Revis plays for Yen 3. NFL switches its salaries to a barter system 4. Brandon Moore kills Tannenbaum in a kitchen fire during the investors presentation for Moore's first restaurant causing Scott Cohen takes over and pay Revis in VIP club parties and Whole Foods groceries for the rest of his life.
If my options are Revis holds out vs. Revis gets 2010 salary bump and then we revisit after CBA I would choose the former. This does not mean we let Revis become a UFA and seems most likely in my opinion
