Statistically he doesn't deserve it but he's the ideal Jet. Working class, blue collar type guy who fought his way onto the team and made an impact. A fan favorite. I can see him making it eventually. Now when these guys go in the ring of honor, is their number retired? I mean 12, 13, and 73 are already retired but I can't see 28 being worn by anyone ever again.
It's been said that #80 will never be worn by another Jet either. At least not in our lifetimes I'd gather.
Chrebet deserves in the ring of honor if jersey numbers aren't being retired. Not in the first class, probably not even the 2nd, but he should get in. This is to honor great Jet players. Chrebet definitely fits that mold, and the fans loved him.
no you're correct he doesn't deserve to be on the ring of honor. He was good but he wasn't a all time great Jet, he was just the embodiment of hard work and grit. He's been thanked already by the organization.
Interesting sites about Jets #80- http://chrebet.net/History-jersey.html http://www.ganggreennation.com/2010/7/1/1542145/jets-flight-numbers-80
Mo Lewis is the most underrated Jet. He was our best player for a long time and played on our worst teams. I believe the man should be part of the 2nd phase and has been over looked when recognizing great Jets.
How about starting a TGG ring of honor? Every year we nominate 10 guys and two make it in... they won't give a fuck but it would be cool for us
Future potential inductees off the top of my head: Toon Walker Shuler Snell Boozer McNeil Rasmussen Herman Schmidt Fields Powell Mawae Philbin Lyons Lewis Grantham Mehl Turner Leahy And for character: Byrd Chrebet I don't think any defensive back deserves it off the top of my head. I'm not sure any coaches come to mind either except maybe Michaels and Westhoff Please discuss. It is just a list. I am not advocating for or against anybody on or not on the list.
That is a good point, I for one do overlook him when great Jets come up. Shaun Ellis should go down on that list too after he's gone for a few years. Shaun is only 6 sacks away from tying Mark Gastineau for the sacks record. Abraham is in third 53.5 and Mo in fourth with 52.5, which says a lot for Abraham, he only played in 73 games compared to Mo's 200. Just to add to that, Shaun did that in 155 games, and Mark in 105 games, and Mark missed the sack stat counting category for a few years too.
Chrebet has more catches, yards and TDs than Toon... why should one be in for character and one for skill? If anything switch them...
Wayne had 45 more games then Toon did, but that's the only reason I can think of why he did that....??
I gotta go with Wesley over Toon, Walker was our 2nd best WR after Maynard and was a Jet for a long time. The only other deep threat we ever had since then was Santana Moss. Walker was the real deal.
Great 1st class, can't argue with any of them and IMO picked the players who should one day all be in the HOF in Canton because all deserve that honor. As for future classes obviously no current players until they retire and they enshrine the 2010 - 2020 teams for winning 10 straight Super Bowls but some guys I think will be named for the next few classes will be Lance Mehl, Wesley Walker, Dennis Byrd, Mo Lewis, Al Toon , Mickey Shuler and Joe Fields. Some of the future ones would be Mawae, Ellis, Freeman, Gasteneau, Vinny and Leahy.
I'm posting from my phone, I assumed Mark was already mentioned. I just was agreeing that Mo also deserves future consideration. Further down the line Shaun should. That's all. I'm guessing Mark wasn't mentioned?? Lol
I was wondering how many posts I'd have to read before I got to his name. Like Chrebet, Lewis definitely deserves to be in the ring. Jersey retired? Not IMO.
