If the Nationals were able to get Romero from from the Twins for Capps, the Mets should be able to get a good prospect if they picked up half of K-rod's contract and traded him.

They'd need to cover most all of his deal, especially since Capps is arb-eligible and only making $1.5mil more this season. Plus the Nats threw in $500k

Do it! He's so terrible. He's probably owed around 15 million the rest of his contract, pick up 10.

    2011: 11.5M, 2012: $17.5M option w/ $3.5M buyout

So ya, just about $15 million. I don't know what they'd be able to get for him tho...Maybe a case of Cracker Jacks?

So, lemme see, if the Mets do nothing at the trade deadline is that a GOOD thing, as it means that they are conceding the season, and will retool for next year, (or the years to come)?

Why the Mets are not in complete fucking sell mode, no one knows.

It's because they play in NY. New York baseball teams can't give up on a season when they are over .500.

There is not a lot for them to trade. 2B is the only position they could upgrade because they are not going to trade Davis, Reyes, Wright, or Pagan. They can't trade Beltran because his value is very low right now what with just coming back from injury and having a sizable contract. Bay is untradeable due to suckiness and contract. There is nothing to change about the catcher position.

So to help the team offensively they would only really be looking to upgrade at 2B or the bench. I guess they could get Ty Wigginton. Has he been traded tonight? I don't even know.

Nothing really great there, so that brings us to pitching. With Matt Capps traded, I guess this leaves Octavio Dotel as the best available reliever. Would he make a difference for the Mets? Maybe if good he'd make them one game better over the course of the rest of the season. Stat geeks claim Roy Oswalt will be worth two extra wins for Philadelphia. If you subscribe to that sort of thing, then it would stand to reason that Dotel would probably be worth one extra win at best. If the Mets are going to do any business with Pittsburgh they might as well wait a year or two and get Andrew McCutchen when the Pirates will no longer be able to afford him. They like giving up young talented players. The Mets should take advantage of that as opposed to trading for an aging Pittsburgh player.

On to starters. After all the trades that have already been made, who are the best available starters? Ted Lilly, Fausto Carmona, and Jake Westbrook? I don't think there is anybody great there. I would take a chance on Carmona but I wouldn't want to part with a top three prospect. I would send a couple 2nd tier guys to Cleveland. If that isn't enough, then fine, Cleveland can keep Carmona. My main point here is that there is no reason to trade just to trade. In the Mets current situation you don't trade just to trade. You trade to make the playoffs. Hello?!!!? You trade to make the playoffs.

At this point, I don't see any realistic trade possibility that would propel the Mets to the postseason. I also understand that it is very, very difficult for a New York team with a brand new stadium and a plus .500 record to give up on the season. So, in the end, it makes sense to me for the Mets to just basically do nothing at this time. If the Mets trade for Rich Harden in August it might be okay. That would be a low cost move I think. Maybe coming to the Mets putrid medical staff will be magical for Harden and he'll suddenly stay healthy. That would be ironic, don't you think?

I was thinking this same thing....is this serious? Since his contract, he hasnt been below average, he's been well below below-average, Jason Bay has been below average.

I imagine Omar going to a team saying "You want Ollie?" and the other GM responds with "Sure, what you gonna give us for him?"

In shocking news the Mets have traded Oliver Perez to the Cardinals for nothing and agreed to pick up all of his remaining contract.

I think it's actually better that Omar doesn't trade anything in his remaining months with the team

Anybody know what John Adkins and Ben Johnson are doing? I certainly know what Heath Bell is doing.

Quite honestly Omar's trades as a whole haven't really been that terrible

Castillo is garbage but we gave up nothing to get him... Drew Butera who sucks and a guy who'll likely never see the majors.

Having Santana for what they gave up was s steal hmmm Phil Humber ? The only worth a shit was Gomez

Dumping L Millz wasn't terrible although ultimately it led to Francouer but Milledge isn't anything spectacular and getting rid of Church for Frenchy isn't really even a bad trade.

He actually traded away garbage to get Pagan

The only moves he should have made in hindsight would have been somehow getting Franklin Guittierez in the JJ Putz deal and trading away F Mart in a package for Halladay.

Now Omar's FA signings on the other hand have been downright disgraceful
