Game 1 is in the books, a tough 3-2 loss in which our bats did fuckall. We're ahead on TB by only 1 game now so these games are huge. Tonight: Vazquez vs. Garza Tomorrow: Sabathia vs. Shields Not sure if Kearns will be in the lineup, and I can't find any news about the Berkman deal being official yet.
Haha, I was watching the game in a bar and everybody was jacked up when Swisher went yard 6 pitches into the game. Nobody thought that would be it. What can you say, Tampa and New York are head and shoulders above the rest of the league right now. Every game is going to be a battle.
Now I'm hearing that the Berkman deal is official and he will most likely be in the lineup tonight DHing. Welcome, Lance. The Rays acquired RP Chad Qualls and his 8.29 ERA from Zona today for a player to be named.
Qualls is actually a great buy low candidate. His periferals aren't nearly as terrible as his ERA, but because of that huge number they're getting him pretty much for free.
I wanted the NYY to pick up a quality reliever this deadline. I don't think Kearns was necessary with Berkman coming in. Berkman, Thames, and Posada sharing DH/field time would be enough don't you think?
Marcus Thames should never, ever, ever play in the field. The DH job is now basically going to be split between Berkman and Posada I think. Which pretty much squeezes Thames out; Kearns hits lefties like Thames, but can actually play the outfield.
To make room for Berkman, Kearns, and Wood: Colin Curtis and Juan Miranda optioned to Scranton. Chan Ho Park DFA'd.
Don't let Alio hear you say that. He'll either be offended that you're insulting Coke, or upset that he's missing out on some action.
Actually I take that back. I dunno if anyone is watching the game on YES, but as John Flaherty was ripping on Girardi for bumping Swisher down in the order, Michael Kay brought up the very sensible fact that you don't want 3 lefties (Cano, Berkman, Granderson) in a row. First time I've ever been won over in an argument by Michael Kay.
But his numbers against lefties are absolutely awful. And Granderson's just as bad against southpaws. Besides, the 6 hitter will have a lot of RBI opportunities and Swisher's having a great year. Berkman's been scuffling, so put him at 2 where he gets better pitches hitting in front of Tex and A-Rod. Let Swisher hit with RISP.
Garza's got very sharp command tonight. It's sadly hilarious how few runs the Yankees score for Garza. Especially when compared to Hughes.
