was kind of pulling for vlad the impaler here hopefully this wasnt a wasted draft pick http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/jetsblog/from_jets_camp_slauson_has_lead_QkcwHCSTjddNyqbFYMSOlK
Are you kidding me? Ducasse was clearly a developmental pick when the Jets drafted him. He's got a ridiculously high ceiling and he's not even close to reaching it yet. If Slauson wins the starting job and holds onto the spot, Ducasse will more than likely be our right tackle of the future. This was a great move for the future of this team.
It's very early yet. Rex said yesterday he needed to see a couple of preseason games before he could comment on that position battle.
Oddly enough, he's been playing football for the same amount of time as the Ghost. Ghost played 6 years. At several positions. OL,DT,LB...and so on.
Whichever one isn't a liability in pass protection deserves the job because that's why we cut Faneca in the first place.
Come on dude everyone knows that an offensive lineman is at his career peak in their first week of camp, their rookie season. It is common knowledge, how does a so-called draft guru not know that...... I will use Brick as an example.
It's the first week of Training Camp. Even Clemens was in the lead in the QB "battle" this time last year. Plenty of evaluation time left.
i mean really haha.... How could the idea of Vlad being a wasted pick even be muttered less than 1 full week into his first training camp... realistically we may not really begin to know until his 3rd year....this is a project...
Durrr I hope dis ain't a waste of a draff pick durrr. I've been calling Slauson as the starter since the day after Ducasse was drafted.
I'd like to see Vlad the Impaler sub in as a third tight end in short yardage situations - the same way Wayne Hunter was used last season. Ducasse has absolutely no issues with getting to the next level to crush linebackers. He just has to adjust to the speed of the game. Learning the system will come with time - it seems like this kid is really working hard to pick things up.
Completely agree. I'm sure DWoody is probably on his way out. I almost hope he sticks around 1 more year as a mentor but knowing the way T-Rex works, he will be released after the season with Vlad taking over. In the interest of being more informed, I went back and took a look at some of Slauson's past work. Pretty good. He reminds me of Andrew Bryniarski from Any Given Sunday.
5 o-linemen, Hunter and Vlad at TE, Richardson, Conner, Davis in the backfield with Brad Smith taking the direct snap.
Slauson is Callahan's prized protege.....and has been molding him since their days at Nebraska.....that's why when Faneca got punted, I wasn't too worried about a huge dropoff....this should be a seamless transition. Obviously, we won't know till we see him in game action.....but i have faith in Callahan's oline coaching abilities. Slauson's experience should outweigh Ducasse's potential in this instance.
