I figured I'd start just a single thread for the myriad 'should we sign' threads we'll see coming up.

Rex mentioned in his press conference wanting to pick up some depth at ILB or DL, so let the speculation begin.

Akin Ayodele was released this morning by the Broncos. He's older, a stopgap at best, and it doesn't bode well that he was signed and cut by the Broncos in the same offseason. Still, anyone think he'd be worth a look?

I'd rather sign Adalius Thomas to provide depth at ILB cus he can play all over the defensive front 7.

In the draft thread, somebody posted a link saying that Jarron Gilbert might be cut. He's somebody I'd def. wanna pick up, give him a shot at 3-4 DE

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. Rex, however, said yesterday that he'd rather wait until roster cuts come in before signing potential depth players. I'm not convinced Gilbert gets cut, but I'd love to see him get a look if he does.

I think we may be ok with Cummings, Westerman, and Laury at ILB, but we absolutley need to pick up some depth at DE. Marques Douglas did a solid job all last year and we need someone to keep devito, ellis, and gholston fresh.

Yeah Gilbert getting cut would be ridiculous, he was a third round pick a year ago.

The Jets can bring him in for Hard Knocks so the world can witness that amazing feat of jumping out of a pool.

    Then they can cut him.

I would too but when Rex was asked about the prospect of signing Adalius in the press conference immediately following the Carolina game (and the Pitoitua injury), he made it pretty clear that he had no interest in doing so. He specifically said that Adalius is an OLB and that "Outside linebacker is one of the strongest positions on the team".

There's always a reason when a third round pick with incredible talent gets cut. Could be playbook illiterate, could be a bad guy, whatever, but it's usually not good. I don't really know where this guy fits in a 3-4 anyway, just that he's got an impressive Youtube video.

His position in college was a 4-3 DT so naturally I'd say 3-4 DE. It's possible he's just a poor fit at 4-3 DT but he could be a good fit for 3-4 DE.

    ^ I just saw that.

It seems odd to me that we're picking up a WR with how cluttered our corps is right now. What could they have seen in the way of ST play?

If Steven Hawking was running a delayed draw, Akin Ayodele would not be able to tackle him, the dude flat out sucks.

    Just say no!

I gotta tell ya. I just imagined Stephen Hawking rolling up the field on a draw play and beating out Akin Ayodele. Amazing.
