I do not believe that was Chrebet. There was no mention of Danny Woodhead and he didn't compare measurable's like height, skin color and cock size.

That was a good read (and shorter than the Rex one)

    Go Jets!

I'll never forget going to Hofstra to watch training camp and seeing this little white dude running around the field and thinking,"there's no way this guy makes the team".
Chrebet is actually the only player i've got vivid memories of as a rookie in TC, for whatever reason?I can't believe it was so long ago.
I have to say that he is by far my favorite Jet of all time.

It breaks my heart that this man did not get a superbowl ring.

That is a nice first blog by Chrebet. Interesting, sincere, truthful.

It's funny, Wayne watches the games like several posters here on this board. In his basement alone.

I also miss him on the field. He sure was fun to watch, even through those miserable seasons he was part of.

I was just glad we gave Rudy a chance. I guess that's why "Rudy 2, bigger heart, bigger competition" was never released.

Seriously though, if Wayne was African American or black do you think he would've been such a fan favorite. (See Danny Woodhead)

Brad Smith does what Danny does and more, Brad does it better too. I don't see all the knobslobbibg for Brad.

I loved to watch the guy and even have my Danbury Mint Statue of him and his jersey put up.

I also like Danny Woodhead and have been wanting to buy his Jersey, but they keep changes his number. :) Is Danny a Wayne? NO, but they were both guys the team brought in and no one expected to never make the 53 man roster, but through hard work and a lot of grit they both made it. Just like in the movie Rudy, they are guys the teamsmates loved to play with and the fans admired. (Yes all three mentioned are white small guys, but that isn't my reason.)

This was a great read and I too watch the games by myself. After four decades you just get tired of being made fun of and having your team laughed at in your own home. No one mocks the Jets in my house anymore and as a defense mechanism after so many same old Jets let downs that is how I like to watch the games.

At one point I only would invite Jet fans to my house, but even that sucked, I don't need someone else yelling at the TV or being in a bad mood around when all you want to do is turn the TV off and say what could have been. Most will not agree, but most have not being around to expirience the four decades of heartbreak.

As a NY native who grow up in a house with parents that were Miami Dolphin fans. Which happens more than you might think, just like all the Jets families that like in Miami. I experienced many years of taunts and remarks about how I should get a real team. Who here that saw the famous "Spike" game by Marino really would have wanted to be sitting around a bunch of Phin fans? I was and it was pretty rough and the laughs lasted a while. The last time I really invited people over was opening day of the 1999 season when the Jets were everyones hot pick and I was so happy for the football season to start, well we all know how that started with Vinni going down. I was crushed and had to listen for four quarters how screwed my team was. Nope, I would rather sit at home watching and enjoying my team in quite.

Well enough ranting, may the Jets prove us right and all the hater wrong. Its been more than a decade since I was this pumped for our first game.

is there not a bullshit position on the field the jets can prepare for chrebet to help him obtain a ring? Like an assistant to an assistant wide receiver coach.

But then again, there are so many other deserving Jets who have not won one as well.

There was no one better than Chrebet at instinctively knowing where the first down marker was. I can still see him in my mind, twisting after the catch, and extending his arms with the ball just enough to break that plane....

Despite the controversy, he and Keyshawn were a great tandem. At least Keyshawn admits it now in retirement, 10 years too late.

I believe his sister is a professional writer so maybe she helped him or he has some family talent.

That was a nice read although I'd more compare going into 1999 w/ this year than going into '98. '99 is when many had us as a SB favorite.

I don't know if it's a black/white thing as much as it is a fact that most fans are not your big burly football player type guys and can identify with a guy like Woodhead or Chrebet.

I was giving a option, since my cultural diversity training I learned that not all black people are African American. I'm surprised you didn't know that Richard.

lol, some people would go to Europe and call a black person "African American."

Either way, Wayne was the best, it's a shame that his career was cut short by concussions, otherwise he could have been wearing the Green on Rex's offense. What a sight that would have been.

Most Jet fans love Brad Smith, although some here insist on judging him solely as a WR and nothing else, even though he can do so many different things.

Regarding him vs Woodhead, I don't think it's about skin color as much as background. Smith was a D-1 QB at Missouri and put up a ton of numbers, plus he's physically what you would expect an NFL player to be. It took Woodhead three camps just to overcome the stigma of his size and the fact that he didn't play D-1 football to ever get a shot.

Regarding Chrebet and this blog, it will be fun to get his thoughts every week. I'll be wearing my #80 to the opener, as per the wishes of TGG.
