An experienced receiver moves the ball to his left hand and gains an extra yard by straddling his arm as he goes out of bounds but the Jets were anything but smart tonight. And his best catch was nullified by a penalty, so no problem with the effort but can we show some football smarts on offense?
he is incredibly inconsistent. in the play-offs he was great last year. but games like today happen way to often for him
What I don't get is why he wouldnt just take the extra step before he made the turn to go towards the sideline? Why run towards the sideline a yard short knowing your momentum might take you out of bounds, or you might have to make a catch straddling the boundaries.
It's not that easy, the game is moving so fast that sometimes you don't have any time to react that way. I think if you want to be pissed be pissed that he wasn't past the yearc marker before the catch was made but not because momentum carried him out of bounds. Regardless it's not what won or lost us the game. It's not our offense gave anybody here the confidence that they would have sustained an actual drive.
I said this in one of the other threads. The guy was in Queersville just 30 seconds earlier. Maybe he shouldn't have been in the game, but he couldn't have been very right in the head.
Based on a number of smart posters saying I'm wrong, I'll soften my stance...Still, just a horrible way to end the game. Really made the whole thing worse, and it was already pretty bad. It just seemed like Keller didn't give a shit. If he was out of it shame on the Jets for keeping him in the game of course.
Noticed this as well, agree with you. I think Keller may have thought he had the first down because he was past the stick. On the replay the ref moved away from the 1st down marker, Keller turned his head, spotted the stick, and stepped out. Bullshit.
Keller's last play was horrible but we're all forgetting the catch that got erased. The dude stood in for a catch down the seam knowing he was going to get knocked the fuck out and still made a great catch in the first half. He's got balls, he just needs brains in the last situation of the game.
i dont understand why any1 is giving him slack for not stretching on the last play. i yelled my lungs off at the tv when he didnt stretch the football. that was a complete bonehead play and he should be benched for that play. NO EXCUSES for that play, NONE. you have to be aware of that situation. I honestly think he didnt know the game was on the line on that play.
hes still pretty young man, and things like this will happen. He is just used to making sideline catch after sideline catch in practice game situations, so he definitely is thinking step out right after making the catch. the only problem was (like pointed out earlier) he was positioned at the wrong spot. he is still a great and very athletic tight end, but very young, you gotta allow him to learn from these things.
In defense of Keller... He was going out of bounds where he saw the down marker, which the ref held about a yard behind that actual mark.
I don't blame the receivers for much tonight. everything was out of rhythm and we have an inept QB and coordinator. when you finally get a pass you're probably blown away and you're hands freeze. ha
Blaming Keller for this loss is ridiculous. I know I cursed him out during the game thread but Keller gave one of the better efforts on this team in the passing game. He should have had a better focus on the 1st down marker but the O should have had a better focus on the job altogether. The CS deserves more of the blame for the results of the 3 plays prior to Kellers' fuck-up.
Keller is a fucking idiot. We shouldn't blame him as much for stepping out of bounds before the 1st as we should for not knowing where the first down marker is on his route. Every WR/TE knows that when running their routes, they need to know where the 1st down marker is. It has always been clear that Keller has low football IQ, I just had no idea that it was this low.
I must be one of about three people who've posted in this thread that saw Dustin Keller get murdered by the hardest-hitting linebacker in sports moments before this play. If Braylon Edwards gets his fucking feet set, there's an "Official Dustin Keller Appreciation Thread" on this site. Later on in the year, this thread's getting bumped, so try to moderate the hate.
That's a good point...I forgot about that catch inside the 5. Man, we were so close to winning this game somehow...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=300913020 Everyone watch the highlights because this is true. The guy holding the marker moved backwards, and Keller thought he got the first because of this.
