And we seemed to have been running at will against them in the 1st half despite this!! Schotty should have kept on with the run. There were a bunch of moments there in the 2nd half where we needed a clock killing drive where a bunch of runs would done us a load of good, and Schotty kept calling plays to keep the Vikes in the game.
He is who he is. I was screaming to my wife on the moss TD when he had Pool blitzing that if we don't blitz that probably doesn't happen. But...it's hard to get that mad at the style that's giving us the reputation we have now. I think, and after a win it's a lot easier, Rex and Pettine and co. will learn from this. Scary as this sounds, we will be a better team come Nov. and Dec. A better team.
Yeah, that call is on Sanchez. Im glad it happened. It was going to happen sometime in his career. I'd rather have it happen in a victory. That play should have been snapped at 2:02. It would have winded the clock down to 1:56 with a 3rd down coming up. Third down play takes off another 5 seconds and you left to punt it away at 1:10. By the time punt ends, the time would read around 1:00 and 1:50. 60 ticks, no time out. Even if one play is stopped inside the field, it erases off 25 seconds. At the most, you can expect Favre to have 4 plays, all at the sidelines, so now he doesn't have the entire field open. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise since he was taking free shots in the middle of the field. We don't get that pick if time read around 45 seconds instead of 1:40. Glad it happened in a winning cause. As for Rex, yeah I was a little pissed off at him blitzing on 3rd and longs. First time he did that, Randy got a TD. He should not have done it the second, third and even the fourth time. He did it four times and everytime he did it, Favre picked the Jets D apart. The pressure wasn't getting to Favre on time so Rex should have made an in-game adjustment. Rex stopped blitzing when we had a 9 point lead and less than a minute to go. Whats the point now? Just blitz and end Favre's career. He aint scoring 9 pts in 40 seconds when he scored 20 in 59 minutes.
You could not be more wrong. It was a good call. It was poor execution. It is all on Sanchez for snapping too early. Even Rex mentioned it in the press conference.
Its getting predictable, so occasional blitz is ok, but I agree, just try to defend the first down on 3rd and 10+.
Haha, I pictured Robert Downey Jr saying the line in Tropic Thunder and I died. Had to make it my sig, it's a perfect summary of Schotty and his bullshit.
The coaching staff nearly gave the game away with those bullshit playcalls, but who the fuck cares right now. WE WON!!! FOUR AND ONE, BABY!
Why the hell are you blaming schotty for a play Sanchez snapped 5 seconds earlier? Some people just want to blame everything on Schotty. His game planning was great. Our receivers dropped about 6 passes today, mainly due to the wet conditions. We got the initial lead and never gave it back. We dominated the first half and dominated the game when it was on the line. We weren't close to perfect, but we were great when it counted.
that's the thing - teams know how to beat zero coverage and pick up the blitz. Something new needs to be tried out.
we won. i don't fault rex. the blitzers weren't firing in good enough and the vikes o-line played great
