11 of their first 13 games were decided by 7 points or less. (Yes, I know the blog article was concerned with only the first 9 games of a team's season.) score entering 4th quarter followed by final score Week 1- led Dallas 21-17; lost 28-31 Week 2- led SD 10-7; won 20-7 Week 3- led LA 7-6; won 14-9 Week 4- trailed Saints 13-17; won 20-17 Week 5- led St. Louis 13-6; won 13-6 Week 6- led PHI 28-3; won 35-3 Week 7- trailed Seattle 9-10; lost 12-17 Week 8- led Redskins 20-17; won 27-20 Week 9- led Dallas 10-7; won 17-14 Week 10- led Eagles 17-0; won 17-14 Week 11- trailed Vikings 12-13; won 22-20 Week 12- led Denver 13-9; won 19-16 Week 13- led SF 21-17; won 21-17 After that the Giants stopped nipping teams. They started to bitchslap them.
I think you're misinterpreting the article. Winning lots of blowouts does not cause playoff/superbowl wins. Winning lots of blowouts is correlated with playoff/superbowl wins. In other words, teams that win lots of blowouts tend to be teams that win playoff games. The author goes on to say that the Jets have not been playing as well as their record indicates. Normally a team with the best record in the league will have more blowouts than the Jets have. I think it will be hard to find anyone that believes the Jets are playing better than their record. If the Jets can hit on all cylinders in a few games you'll see some blowouts.
Not sure I misinterpreted. I added my own 2 cents, brought blowouts into it when the article didn't really talk about blowouts, or even SB predictions. He pretty much limited his stats to first 9 games as a predictor for the next 6 games. (He left out the final regular season game because so many teams rest starters) His SB indicator stat was the passing efficiency differential. And that is one we need to improve on and have been the last 2 weeks... And I've stated several times in this thread that I do think we will get some dominant victories during the second half of the season...
Look, Rex Ryan's coaching style is to score low, run the ball mixed with a little bit of Sanchez airing it out, and play defense. Low scoring games with a defense that makes the other team score less. Therefore, he's got no problem putting up 21 and not letting you get more than 20. It's more of a tactical game. It's just his style. As long as he wins, who the fuck cares?
I think Rex would love to blow teams out 16-0 every game. You don't think the Jets are good enough to blow teams out? I don't understand the resistance to the idea that the Jets should/will get more blowouts.
Not sure I agree with that at all. His style is tough defense and having an offense with the ability to run the ball when it needs to. (As in bad weather in the NE.) But he has no aversion to scoring points and brought in Holmes and Edwards to do it. Not to mention Tomlinson for his pass catching ability.. Balanced offense is his philosophy.
Thats a huge point. Everybody plays the jets so vehemently that I think they are bringing out the best in their opponents, as odd as that may sound. Granted though, Cleveland beat two good teams the week before us, I still think this carries some weight.
Thats an interesting perspective and I agree with it for the most part. However, I think our offense is capable of so much more. I'm thinking well be able to see the true potential of this offense within the coming weeks, hopefully before NE and Pittsburgh.
No what I'm saying is we don't need them, we are obviously good enough but we don't need alot of blowouts. Obviously blowouts aren't fun for either side I'd love to see a relatively close albeit with a comfortable lead win instead of a blowout, plus close wins tells you more about the team than a huge win.
You know what? Who cares. As long as we're winning, we're winning, that's all that matters. For example if let's say the Jets and Giants were facing each other in the Super Bowl(just an example, no prediction, just off the top of my head), and the Jets let up a late 4th quarter surge by the Giants, and yet they still won, would anybody be whining about how they wanted the Jets to blow them out to win, not down to the wire? No. Everyone would be paying attention to the win, because winning the Super Bowl was all that mattered, no matter how you did it.
This article complete ignores our overall point differential, which is 3rd in the NFL (behind Green Bay and Tennessee). That's a more telling stat than margin of victory/leads at various points in games stats.
People get wrapped in that blow out shit. I guess style points matter to the so called pundits. Ne gets whooped by the Browns and then whoop the Steelers, that means the Pats are still awesome. The Jets should have beaten the Browns handily by all accounts after that 2nd half performance. They still win over a team that just beat last SB winner and the Pats the 2 prior weeks. Somehow that means nothing though. I just don't get it.
