I can't really argue this; however, if I had to choose between the two to win me a Playoff game, I think I'd pick Sanchez right now because he seems more clutch, and Orton hasn't really proven much in that department. Again, if you gave Orton our ground game and WR corps, he probably puts up better production than Sanchez in general -- but in an elimination game, I honestly think I'd have more confidence in Sanchez.
FWIW, Sanchez is 12/15 in QB rating in the AFC this year. Overall: Looking at the starting QBs in the AFC and comparing them to Sanchez: Henne, Campbell, Fitzpatrick, and Carson Palmer are right out. Vince Young is a b*tch, and Cassel and Garrard are nothing spectacular. That leaves the Top 8: Rivers, Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger are in the top tier. And then you have Flacco, Schaub, and Orton plus Mark Sanchez. He's certainly moved into the top half of the league, and overall (I know this ranking was for this year only) I have no problem w/putting him anywhere 5-8 in the AFC.
Yeah, if it's based purely on this year then I think you're right about Rivers, Brady and Manning, I think that then you could go Ben or Mark. It seems really strange to say that, but he's earned it so far for sure. Pretty awesome for 25 career regular season starts.
my sentiments exactly, hopefully this changes for the better sooner than later...just imagine what his stats would be like if he was completing 65-69% of his passes.
Palmer didn't even play his first year, and there was a horrible injury a few years ago that seems to have changed him.
Orton has been putting up huge numbers this year, mostly because Den has been trailing by 20+ most of the season. Slot of his stats ate due to Facing a lot of prevent defense.
Yeah stats wise, but when you pass as often as he does and are always trailing and throwing to come back, you are gonna rack up some numbers. Sanchez is definitely a better player than Orton.
Sanchez has everything you need to be a successful NFL QB. His arm is plenty strong, he has excellent mobility, presence in the pocket and is quite possibly the hardest worker on the team. Wasn't at the facility on a near daily basis in the offseason? Only thing he needs to work on now is consistent accuracy. He is definitely an accurate passer (those passes to Edwards and Holmes were some of the best passes we've seen a Jets QB throw in a long time, and they were back to back in a high pressure situation) but he needs on being that accurate all game. He'll get there, he hasn't even made 30 starts in the NFL yet
