I may be jaded due to the beatdown, but I'm not basing the assessment on just that game. The last 3 games, though wins, have seemed to be in spite of the problems and due to the poor quality of the opponents. I hoping for a good performance against Miami to restore some of my faith in this team and its coach.
Pats - No Steelers - No Chiefs - Yes Jaguars - No Ravens - No Colts - Yes Dolphins - Yes Raiders - Yes NFC: Anybody but GB or NYG
The reason for this thread is... 3 of the final 4 games we play are against potential playoffs teams (Miami, Pittsburgh, Chicago). Right now Pittsburgh and Chicago are penciled in as the #2 Seeds in their Conference. Miami is still not eliminated at 6-6 and could still theoretically make the playoffs (something they will be fighting hard to keep alive this week). I think the next 3 games will tell us if the Jets belong in the playoffs or not, but right now it's looking like we would be one of the weaker teams int he playoffs if we made it. The Jets can change that outlook, but to do it they have to beat Miami and either Pittsburgh or Chicago. They have to prove that they belong where they are going. There are more teams who could still theoretically make the playoffs. San Diego for instance. The total playoff picture is here... http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/standings/playoffrace
The AFC goes through New England and we're not beating them again this year, so this whole discussion is moot.
I think the Jets can beat New England but they can't do it with the strategy they used last monday night. You have to run the ball on the Pats and get to Brady on defense, if you can't do that you won't win. A good deal of the Jets problems are not personnel but game strategy.
The Colts are one-dimensional. The Jags aren't world beaters in the passing game, but they have big physical targets at WR and TE (Sims-Walker, Thomas, and Mercedes Lewis), and they can run it down anyone's throat with MOJO. The Colts can't stop anybody as well. Tennessee hadn't scored an offensive TD in 2.5 games but even they found the cure against Indy. The Jaguars also lead the league in fewest 3-and-outs. They also make very few mistakes and rarely beat themselves with stupid penalties.
jacksonville sucks. you guys think they're a way better team than they are. i have the unfortunate pleasure of being in their television radius up here at school so i get jags games every week. They're not a good football team. They're average. They somehow beat the browns when they turned over the ball 6 times and of course there was the hail mary against the texans. David Garrard looks absolutely terrible every other game and their pass defense sucks. the only real threat on their team besides MJD is Mercedes Lewis. Mike Sims walker is about as mediocre a #1 reciever as you can have. he's alright, he's not good almost all their losses have been blowouts also.
The Colts would be perfect for us imo. Peyton isn't anywhere as good as he was last year. The recievers are hurt. Their run game sucks.
Couldn't disagree more. Tamme, Garcon, Wayne would be enough to murder us. Peyton would study the Pats gamepland and replicate it to perfection.
no, he wouldn't. have you seen peyton's offensive line? or what's left of it rather? The patriots pass protection is/was excellent, especially since mankins came back. Brady had all day in the pocket as a result. part of the reason the colts suck this year, aside from the dallas clark/addai injuries specifically, is because of their offensive line. Peyton's throwing a lot more picks because he's forced to throw way earlier than he likes to and he's also taken a lot more hits than ever has in his career.
This is a better question AFTER the coming weekend. I'd be interested to see what some of these teams do heading into the home stretch, and I'd especially like to see how the Jets and Patriots respond.
They're not worldbeaters, but they deserve more credit than they get, imo. You're right, outside of MOJO who do they have? The average NFL fan couldn't name 5 players on that team, yet they are consistently competitive year after year, despite having the worst fanbase in football. I respect the hell outta that team and don't think they should be overlooked.
I refuse to be a prisoner of the moment.. AFC: New England: Possible Pittsburgh: Possible Kansas City: Yes Jacksonville: Yes Baltimore: Yes San Diego: Yes Indianapolis: Possible (only because of Peyton) I think the Jets are capable of beating any of these teams. Will they? It remains to be seen. The 45-3 game was a fluke. The Jets may not beat the Patriots in the playoffs (if they play), but I do know that the Jets have a win over NE, so it can be done. Sure the Jets will probably have to go on the road to win the Super Bowl, it can be done and has been done before. I am worried about finishing strongly and going into the playoffs playing the best football this team is capable of playing.
