LMAO. God dammit, I was really hoping that he'd play a bit more inspired and confidently given that it was a meaningless game. Honestly, what's the deal with Gholston? How could he be so good in college and be so awful in the pros? The way I see it is that he's really not an intelligent player and has little-to-no football instincts, but I'm curious as to what you guys have to opine on the subject.
Your second paragraph sums it up. His production at college was due to killing mediocre OLs from shit schools and pretty much disappearing against schools with talented OLs. He was also able to just overpower opposing players. In the NFL, everyone is insanely strong. He has zero pass rushing moves, he has zero instincts, nothing comes natural. He's also a 4-3 DE and nothing else. He'll catch on with a shit team and be a backup with them. He will get one sack in the NFL somewhere. But it might take him another 2 years. Can't feel bad for him. He's richer than all of us.
What the fuck kinda thread is this? If the OP was a Jets fan, he would have watched the game. If the OP was a Jets fan and had 1/16 of a brain he would have known the answer to his own question which is GHOLSTON ALWAYS PLAYS LIKE SHIT
I can't believe the Jets missed so badly on that pick.. literally every singly other first round pick that Mangini/Tanny have made in their careers has worked out extremely well (Wilson still pending), and even most of the 2nd rounders. 06- Brick and Mangold 07- Revis, with Harris in the 2nd 08- piece of crap Gholston and Dustin Keller 09- Sanchez for us 09 (Cle) Alex Mack who is a very good young Center 10 (Cle) Joe Haden who looks very good and TJ Ward early in the 2nd round who also looks good Just unbelievable that the team has 1 big weakness, they thought they took care of it with the #6 overall pick, and they've gotten exactly ZERO production from him. They were so damn worried about the Pats trading up that it may have affected their judgment.
I actually was going to look for the old Gholston thread because I promised I'd admit I was wrong if he didn't have a good year. Well, this thread is good enough, so I'm taking the opportunity to eat my crow. I really thought he'd have a good year, and I still believe Rex thought so too. Hell, Rex designed plays to give him a shot to get his first sack, and he came close a few times, but it just never happened. That's on Gholston. I don't care how many times you're double-teamed, if you're a professional athlete, you have to break one. He was an utter failure. It happens, unfortunately. As was mentioned, he was one bad pick among a lot of excellent ones, so it's kind of hard to be that upset over. It just sucks that it was such a high pick that returned no value at all.
He sucked. Gilbert and Dixon looked far more impressive. Dixon especially who was getting constant push up front opening up lanes for a blitzing dbs.
I don't remember hearing his name once. Since it's never announced when you hear it, you know it. The guy is a bum.
