Again, hyperbole/failed attempt to be funny. Not actually something that I expected to happen or thought would ever be attempted. Indianapolis delenda est.
I don't really know how I feel about this. All I know is Tony wasn't getting the job done. As far as Bill Cowher, it's not that he didn't want anything to do with the Dolphins, he wanted Ireland, Nolan and everybody else gone. He wanted full control and the Phins weren't convinced that was necessary
If I were the Dolphins, I'd back the money truck up to Jimmy Johnson's boat slip and fill it with as much cash as it could hold to lure him back to coaching. He has the perfect star power for Miami. Sure, he's 10 years out of the game. But he'll be able to score chicks again and put that Extenze penis to work.
You'd have to be insane to turn down 7-8 million a year with no state tax. If that offer is true he'll be the next Miami HC, no doubt.
why does this guy deserve to be the highest paid coach in the nfl? just a rumor, but beat writers are saying the main reason is henne. i seriously think the phins should trade henne, and two 3/rd for orton, and then get josh mcdaniels are the OC. i would be worried.
What a classless organization. They haven't even fired Sporano yet, and they're offering other coaches the job? Man up and fire the guy first.
Gruden turned it down because he's not looking for a challenge. He's hoping to latch on to a team that already has the talent so he can win early and struggle later just like he did in Tampa. Indianapolis delenda est.
I can see a guy like Gruden not wanting to be in a division with the Jets and Patriots with Henne as a QB...
I think its the same reason the niners are strugglnig to get anyone - everyone knows that the only way to win in this league is to have a good QB - and neither miami or the niners are in that category - its very difficult for anyone to step into that environment so the only people likely to do it are those that are desperate for the shot or moving from college and hopnig to be allowed time to develop a QB
I wonder if there's any chance that if the Phins lose out on Harbaugh and Cowher, they just stay with Sparano.
Are you kidding me? So any time a team tries to trade for a better player or tries to snag a free agent they have to cut the other player first?
This is different than a player. Once you put that doubt in the player's head that "man, this coach may not be the answer, they are looking for another one" and he then comes back in spring after the team is spurned by other coaches it will undermine his ability to lead. Unless you think it is ok that the ownership does not trust the head coach and shows it publicly.
There's an unwritten rule about coaches. You don't talk about taking the HC job for a job that is occupied and you don't interview people for the job without firing him. This is not something people are making up to hate the Dolphins, it's real. Both the Fins and Harbaugh are out of line here.
I agree it is not a very nice thing to do. I just don't get why coaches(who make much less than star players and are usually guaranteed their money) are supposed to be given this courtesy while players are subject to constant turning over of rocks by GMs If for whatever reason the Pats decided to put Brady on the block no team in the league would "fire" their starting QB before they put a feeler out. Why? Because they might not land him, and then where would they be? I don't get why it is any different with a coach. This whole thing is based on perception.
Can you imagine the foot-in-mouth press conference for that bullshit? Stephen Ross: "I have completed my evaluation process, and have decided that Tony Sparano gives this organization the best..." "I mean second best..." "Well possibly third best..." "Certainly in the top five best..." "Well, at least a better chance than my gardner for success."
