Eric Smith has been a beast in the playoffs with 20 tackles and some of them have been highlight film quality. He also got in the head of Chung on that fake punt. He was not in the lineup last time the were in Pittsburgh and he is 100% healthy. I can seem him being a huge factor roaming the middle and laying the wood on some Steelers on Sunday! I think his presence is being overlooked and if he plays like he has the last two weeks he should neutralize Heath Miller and help prevent another big running day from the Steelers.
I completely forgot he didn't play. I look forward to him being in as well. It will be a different game.
I've been saying this for weeks. That combined with Pool and Lowery being brand new to their roles in that game really hurt us. Since that time Pool was forced to learn this defense inside and out, the same goes for Lowery. Now instead of 2 average safeties, we have 3 very good safeties. HUGE difference.
Nice to see Smith getting some respect. I agree he is on a mission and will be a factor on Sunday. Confidence is key and he is loaded with it after his game on Sunday.
That hit against Welker was awesome! Phil Simms saying what was that flying off his helmet!?!? They aren't calling helmet to helmet hits this postseason!
It's things like this that make me laugh about how the media breaks down these games. The Steelers weren't at full strength the last time they played the Jets... neither were the Jets. Obviously Troy P is a bigger impact player than Eric Smith but Smith is pretty important to this defense now.
According to the media Troy Polamalu wears his boxers outside his pants. NEWSFLASH - hes fuckin human! The few games I've seen of TP, there have been uncharacteristic errors by him, long may they continue.
I think they call it when it's against QB's and defenseless revivers going for the ball. If you have the ball and running, your fair game. At least for this year. I saw shots of Welker later in the game after that hit... Half the logo was missing on one side of his helmet.
Smith's sure tackling and hard hitting will be a big asset in a game @PIT in January. He's been surprisingly solid in coverage the last few games, too. Hopefully he continues that trend....
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but Pool, Lowery and Eric Smith are still Average safeties at best. Calling them very good safeties is a mockery.
The Eric Smith point is an excellent one. He's come into his own the last two games and if it continues, Jets are in good shape.
