I thought he did better as the season went on, and he made some tough catches over the middle. Hopefully this year he can be the 1A. That'll make defenses respect Greene as an every down back and they won't play the run all the way. Add McKnight as the same thing and we've got a party going on in the backfield. That's if the kid really explodes next year, but I'm being cautious and saying he gets 100 touches.
yeah...like L.Blount from the Bucs.....he'll run people over and punch Schotty in the face if the need should arise.
Exactly, Greene is proven late season, and post season. His start this year against Baltimore was awful. The fumbalitis and starting the season flat can't be acceptable if he is going to be our featured back. I like LT around. If the guy can still play, he offers tremendous value to this offense. Two seasons ago TJ carried the rock well until late in the season when Greene took over. Last season LT filled the early void. If Greene wants the start he has to prove it. Can he carry the load for the entire season? How important is our 1-2 punch? Who the hell is Joe McKnight?
Off topic- This is why football is the greatest sport. It's so much like fucking chess. Something as small as that is actually a huge difference maker. I never thought of it like that before but really good point!
McKnight hopefully learns more from LT this off-season, I would love to see a 1 2 tandem of Greene / McKnight He's definitely no Reggie Bush, McKnight may of had a rough start to the season, but with strong veterans on the squad, he'll put forth more effort in the off-season
What amazes me is how you fing a$$hats keep trolling here. hey how are thing going Pittsburgh out side of football schmuck. The only thing you should be bragging about is that you are not fing Cleveland
I love LT too, but your statement above is exactly why I don't want LT back. Because of that man crush they have on him, I believe if he is back he will once again be the starter and get the Lion's share of the carries. That role needs to go to Greene. If they will limit LT's touches to no more than 8-10 a game (Barring injury), then I don't have a problem with his being back. In two successive years Schottenheimer and/or Rex have burned out an older vet back by giving him too many carries too early in the season (first Jones and then LT). They cannot be trusted not to do it again. If he's back, McKnight should be given every opportunity to win the #2 RB spot and if he does, save LT for 3rd downs, spot duty in some special situation and the playoffs. That said, I'd almost rather the Jets sign an Ahmad Bradshaw or Danny Ware for insurance and truly focus on being "Ground and Pound" to take some pressure off of Sanchez.
LT wore down at the end, There was no reason why we should of stuck with him. We should of went to Greene and we just never really did.
I Like bush He would be a good pickup and add to the hard hitting running game with Greene. Although they might want to get more of a speed guy to go with greenes power running, But i think bush would be a good pick up for shure.
Ravens are probably gonna cut McGahee. That's a signing I would like to see http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ee-and-his-6m-2011-salary?module=HP_headlines
I agree. Another possible advantage to Greene starting is that he can wear down and tire out the D in the first half, then LT or McKnight can come in fresh in the second half for some touches and should be even more effective.
I will be very surprised if we hear the term "Ground and Pound" with respect to the Jets' offense again. They didn't acquire both Edwards and Holmes to just pound the rock. This past season they pretty evenly balanced their offense between rushing and passing. I look for more of the same or perhaps even more passing than running in 2011. I'm still puzzled as to why they spoke so much during last offseason about "Ground and Pound". Perhaps their minds changed once they got into TC, yet I don't understand why they would have drafted McKnight if they were planning on being a power running offense. It seems to me that they would have gone for another big, bruising back. For me that's part of the problem with the Jets. I'm not sure that THEY really know who they are or what they want to do.
Only the Chiefs had more rushing attempts than the Jets last year. And as of right now both those receivers are FA's.
True, WSW, but would you really describe the Jets' rushing attack as "Ground and Pound"? I wouldn't. I don't think the number of rushing attempts is what qualifies as a "Ground and Pound" attack, especially when the number of passing attempts was almost identical. It really wasn't a power rushing attack. I don't recall ever seeing them imposing their will on other teams and running the ball down their throats like the Steelers did to the Jets in the AFC Championship game or like the Raiders did to the Jets a few years ago. Often times when the Jets needed to pick up a 1st down or TD they had to pass or at least elected to pass, thus no showing a lot of confidence in their running game. Also, when in the Red Zone, if they were a true power rushing team, then Greene, Richardson or Conner would have carried the rock more and LT less. I know that LT has wracked up a lot of TDs in his career, but doesn't really have the speed or the power any more to get it done against stouter Ds. I also know that both Holmes and Edwards are both FAs, but do you really expect the Jets to sign neither? I think they will make every effort to sign both, but failing that will sign at least one. With at least one of those two, Cotchery, Keller (who was underutilized), and if Cumberland develops as a TE or WR, the Jets will have a very good receiving corps. In addition, they could always sign a cheaper FA WR or draft a slot receiver in a middle round.
I guess it's a matter of semantics. The fact of the matter is that our offense used the run game more than all but 1 team in the league. Of course we passed more than the previous year when we had a rookie QB.
Ground and Pound doesn't mean the same thing for a zone blocking team. Greene's all the bruiser we need in that system. Any bigger/slower and a back would struggle to make that first cut. I don't think the problem is the team not knowing what it wants to do. The problem is fans not understanding the team. Why didn't you have a problem with the term when TJ and LW were the main backs?
I did have a problem with the term when TJ and LW were the main backs. I just wasn't posting on this site at the time. I disagree with your notion that some of us fans don't understand the team. I truly don't think Schotty has a clue. The offense is all over the place. They have no real identity. They have a label they gave themselves that imo is a complete misnomer. Often when they want to run the ball, they cannot. They don't have a power rushing attack. They don't pound opposing Ds and wear them down. They don't impose their will on the better teams. Nothing about their offense or rushing attack resembles "Ground and Pound." Their blocking scheme doesn't change the meaning of "Ground and Pound." That's absurd. It's a total misnomer.
