Why? He's shown on 2 teams he can't get separation and dominate. He's a big guy but so was Marcus Henry. They aren't NFL WRs. I don't care that he's played with Sanchez at USC. It means nothing against pro defenses
Braylon will probably be cheaper than holmes, and he plays every down. Holmes was good, but his drops and his TERRIBLE run blocking keep him from being the better choice. Edwards, Cotch, Smith, and Turner sounds great to me. It wouldn't bother me one iota to never see that bs first down shit that he does (especially when the catch celebrated isn't a first down) I'm sure that I am in the minority here.
Who? Landon Johnson? Tavares Gooden? You can't just assume that there's somebody. 3-4 ILB is a tough spot to fill; the Pats and Ravens have struggled finding ILBs for years.
I think the Jets can bring back the WRs and Harris if they play their cards right. The thing is, they won't be able to add much after that but this team made the AFC title game in back to back years. There's gonna be some turnover but the core of the team is still intact. If the cap goes up to 140 million, the Jets will have more than 30 million to work with if they make some reasonable cuts (the ones you mentioned).
Unless we see some huge development this off season, Wilson at #2 cb would be a disaster. Wishful thinking is not the solution to how the Jets deal with the choices before them.
You lose me here. The cap's 140, we make the cuts, we restructure Sanchez and we have 33 million or so. But then we add Holmes (8+)/Harris(8+)/Edwards (6+) and we have 11 million to spend and our starting defense is: DeVito-Pouha-Dixon Westerman-Harris-Scott-Pace Revis-Wilson-Lowery-Leonhard With Cole as the nickel back, Trufant and Emmanual Cook as your sixth and seventh defensive backs, Cody Brown as your designated pass rushing LB, Gilbert, Ropati and Tevesu as your backup lineman, Robert Turner at RT. Now you could improve it some with draft picks and $8-9 million you'll have left after the draft picks, but you're talking about an incredibly thin lineup.
Agreed! Perhaps if Holmes leaves, we will make better use of Keller/ Cumberland combo. I like Turner as well. Two big receivers could cause lots of anxiety for opposing defenses. plus Braylon has deep speed. We tend to forget that. His blocking alone is enough for me to want him back. he helps our run game go. We are a Ground & Pound team!
Brown/Crable/Toal-it doesn't really matter which one you pick. There's a good chance we'd be counting on a player with no NFL track record who the rest of the league has passed on. 95 times out of a 100 this doesn't work.
Would Keeping Holmes and Edwards, then cut J-Cro be best I think the Offence would be better with Holmes and Edwards than, one of them and J-Cro. I like him but he's not explosive and doesnt scare anyone as much as the other two. Just saying.
Why is everyone assuming Sanchez is restructuring his deal? That is not happening. Any reports on the cap that I've read had it staying the same or going down to $120 million. In that deal the players would get a larger chunk of the TV revenue though.
Cotchery is signed through 2012, cutting him in 2011 would save us next to nothing because $3.3 million is guaranteed. 2012 is a different story. We'd save $2.3 and he'd get $1.1 million.
wth? Where are these reports? I've never heard anything like that. I don't see why sanchez restructuring is out of the question either.
About a year ago, so it is dated but it's the only real news I heard on that topic. Why would Mark's agent let him restructure when he's heading into his largest paid year after playing great in the big games? It's not like he's been in the league 7 years and has already made his dough. I can't see the agent or the Union being on board with that.
I just did a quick search and found this, but there are legit articles about the subject. "What about a salary cap? It is expected the league will go back to having a salary cap after one year without one. Some believe the cap will be lower than it was in 2009, when it was $127 million. But this is conjecture." http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...rs-chicago--20110129_1_bears-sign-cba-lockout
