Mark is our franchise QB so I guess if you give Favre the "C" his first year as a Jet you gotta give it to Mark. Who cares if he's wiping boggers on other players on the sidelines during the AFCCG. Haha, really though, he's made tremendous strides in work ethic, he's come a long way since the immature kid we saw last season on Hard Knocks. They say the 3rd season is the year you find out about your QB, so hopefully Mark impresses on and off the field with the added role.
I hate those stupid captains patches, the players know who the leaders are and that is all that is important. He doesn't need a C on his jersey for everyone to know he is the leader of this team.
But what's the downside of giving it to him? Keep in mind that Sanchez isn't always the most vocal of QBs, and I can recall numerous times during games last season where Mark attempted to tell/remind players of things they were doing wrong, and was hardly acknowledged. One case being Mark telling Braylon that he went out of bounds when we were trying to milk the clock, and Braylon waving him off as if to say, "don't tell me how to do my job." The "C" not only tells other players that the CS is behind Mark, but it also places the notion in the back of Mark's head to make sure he doesn't make Rex regret giving him that status. With the exception of Shotty's poor play-calling/game-planning (at times, e.g. 2010 Ravens game), I love the way the organization is grooming this kid.
It's dopey in any sport, the players in that LR know who the leaders are. B/c Mark now has a an ugly "C" on his jersey doesn't make him more of a leader. i loved that Rex didn't give those out the first 2 years, I hate that he is doing it now but if this is the least of our problems I'll take it.
I don't like it b/c it isn't necessary, who cares if you or I see the "C"? All that matters is the LR. It was an asinine idea by the NFL created solely to sell more jerseys.
I think this is a great move by Rex and shows how far Sanchez has come in a very short amount of time.
