So, this is ESPN's new system. Does that mean we will have to live with two from now on or will the entire world adopt their's? Personally I wouldn't want to adopt anything ESPN does because it will be anything but fair.
Just FYI, this new rating takes into account W's. I love that Pennington is ranked so high the season we told him to screw off for Camo Penis.
Aikman's system is better than the old one, but it isn't used universally. Unfortunately, ESPN will use it relentlessly, so we'll likely end up with two in the end.
These folks had way too much time on their hands during the lockout. Why should anyone care that they have a different system to judge QB's. I just going to be anyoed when they beging shoving it down our throats.
How about we watch film and see which QB performs the best under the circumstances in which he's placed in?
they do that. for once ESPN was pretty smart. i watched some of the special explaining the formula. they calculate plays made from behind vs garbage time. one thing in particular i like is they measure passing yards, and how many of those yards the ball was actually in the air. (im sure this one hurt sanchez) they said using the formula that game last year where Vick ran for 2 tds threw for 4 and went 20 of 28. was on of the best games by a qb over the last 8 years. and id have to agree. this formula has sanchez where he belongs. floating around average. if they included playoff games im sure hed be above average, since its when hes actually looked his best. there will always be flaws to a formula but I believe this one is far better than the regular QB Rating.
I love my stats but so much of what goes into a win can never be measured. Leadership, play-calling, coming up big in the right moments. Mark Sanchez has "IT", and no stat can change that.
Its where I expect him to be rated with a completion % that low. As long as he keeps winning espn's rating doesnt matter.
Is this really what you meant to type? One of the smartest games you've EVER seen a QB play? When all his teams points(3 FGs) were a result of the Jets offensive/special teams mistakes? I know it was windy that day but holy shit, it was easily Rodgers worst performance of the season.
This new rating isn't the end all be all but it does attempt to take into account some nuances of the game that most other stats don't. Nothing beats watching every play over a long period of time but that's not gonna happen for very qb. It definitely gives a better sense of if a qb helped or hurt his team than passer rating does. Guys like Schaub can't get away with compiling bullshit stats in the fourth during a blowout to make their numbers look good with this.
Well, seeing as we need to win in the regular season to get there, they are not completely worthless.
Rushing yards count, so a play where a qb scrambles and picks up a first down will have a positive impact on their qbr.
QBR > QB rating = salient point. Most of you are pointing out the obvious, that there's no flawless statistic for rating a QB's performance......but QBR is a vast upgrade over what we previously had at our disposal.
not a fan of qbr, mostly because i'm not a math person and i have no idea how to calculate it. seems like my problem will only get worse with this new formula. i do appreciate the fact that it is a system that allows me to see qbs relative to each other. i won't know how many tds or yards a qb with a rating of 97.1 has thrown for, but at least i know that for the most part, their performance was better than the guy with a 50.4 rating. that's how i plan on using this new one too. probably a bit easier to understand with it going from 0-100 with 50 being average. i hope the nfl adopts the system because it seems to take more things into consideration and i'd rather not have to see 1 system on mnf and another on sundays. you know espn won't just let it die.
