There's just been a running inside joke on Danny Woodhead in general for years now, we aren't cheering an injury.
Clean hit, he got up, apparently smiling in the lockeroom (assuming he wasn't thinking that he was a super hero) And I agree, everyone thinks NFL is soft till its one of their own.
There will probably be a fine, as it IS against the rules, a blindside block in which the blocker makes contact to the head or neck area with their head, shoulder or forearm has been banned since 2009 after that hit by Ward on Rivers. If there's one thing I take away from the game tonight is that the pass rush for the Patriots is going to be so much better than last year. They have looked this good without Haynesworth or Ellis. The depth is going to keep guys fresh and in situations they will have the best chance to succeed in. Oh, and Mayo at the Will LB could make him even better by letting him get to the QB more.
When did hitting someone face to face, head on become a blindside hit? Is Woodhead blind too? Woodhead was watching the the guy he was tacking instead of where he was running. He still got hit face to face. Does that mean he can't be blocked? Will these rules apply to the rest of the league?
Of course it is a blindside hit, the player came from an angle where he could not be seen that is pretty much the definition of blindside. If the block had been lower it would be legal, but the rule is specifically to prevent players from launching themselves into the head of a player who can't see him to defend themselves.
I would hope a hit like that isn't worthy of a fine. There was no launching or anything more malicious than trying to lay a solid block on him. I won't be surprised if there is a fine though.
All Pats players should be targets when their classless, POS coach runs up the score in pre-season. Hell, I wish some player would launch himself, head first at the hooded stooge. Hell, I couldnt believe that ESPN talked about yesterday's Pats game and said some shit like, "Same ol' Pats," as though this isn't pre-season, and they wont get raped by the Jets again this year.
There's no such thing as running up the score. If a team doesn't want to be scored on, then stop the opposition. The only people who complain about "running the score up" are the losers.
I wasn't saying Jets fans were losers. But, if anyone thinks the Patriots were running up the score last night are insane. It was 28-0 at the end of the 1st half with the starters in there and they scored 3 points the rest of the game with backups.
Yeah but we should have put the backups in earlier, or told the starters not to even try. Evaluating your team's ability and performance in a preseason game isn't important when you already have a 2 TD lead. /SARCASM
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/2309/about-last-night-cliff-lees-lucky-13 The NFL fined Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh $20,000 for a late hit, in a preseason game last Friday, on Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton. Suh was fined twice last season for hits on Jay Cutler and Jake Delhomme, and the NFL is watching closely in case his pattern of bad behavior ever crosses the line and affects a good quarterback.
If you get hit between the numbers on the front of your jersey, it's not being blindsided. You aren't required to see if someone is looking where they are going before you block them. And there is no rule against blindside hits. It happens to QB's all of the time.
The problem with fining anybody for a hit to Danny Woodhead's head is hes so fucking short. Any good shot at him is likely to come close to his head. its unfortunate, but its a risk he's running. He certainly takes advantage of his lack of size when he's got the ball in his hands.
Tonight the Ravens host the Chiefs. Ironic because they DOMINATED then in the 2010 Wild Card game in Kansas City, a year before that the Jets DOMINATED the Bengals in Cincinnati and now host them on Sunday. Kinda cool.
