Waters is 34 and due several mil from KC. Pioli doesn't keep that type of player. He could be a great depth pickup for NE. He's probably a better guard than Connolly.
Is it just me, or do these strategies where the Pats sign every veteran they can while simultaneously trading and hoarding draft picks seem totally inconsistent? Is the goal to get older and younger? I guess I just can't understand BB's genius and never will.
That'll keep him awake at night. It's pretty simple really, they were thin at guard and picked up a really good one. BTW, The goal is to field the best team possible.
You always want to get younger at every position that is getting long in the tooth, but you also need to have a balance of veteran leadership and talent. Guys who know the system and have seem everything, know how to prepare for an NFL season and for a game and can help younger players along to learn the ropes and how to be a professional at this level. You need a nice mix of old and young, but ultimately you just want to win football games.
2yr deal - pretty big money - $3.5 million this year that is guaranteed just by being on the roster. No wonder we weren't interested.
Waters certainly didn't hurt his case by being a solid character guy. And there is Marcus Cannon to mentor as well.
Honestly I think having Mankins signed long term erases any need to have a "veteran, mentor" guard. He is just here because he is better than the other options available on our roster. At least hopefully... 2 year deal, 5.5 million total, 100% guaranteed. So if your numbers are correct he is getting paid 3.5 million this year, but he doesn't have the potential to cost us any more through incentives, etc. We have the cap room, so I'm not worried.
The Jets are older in average player age than the Pats. The Jets are tied for 7th in average age, and the Pats are tied for 9th.
Wow! You got that from my post? Just poining out to the uninformed on here harping on how old the Pats are, that their team is just as old. Didn't say anything about which team is better, we'll leave that for on the field.
I'm sure you have a point there somewhere. Of course the team is gonna have a younger team if it keeps more younger players....
We both have a very good mix of young and old. The place where everyonr wants to see the age is Brady, but he can realisticly play another 5 or so years at a very high level if he wants. Both teams have good young cores on defense. We should continue to be the class of the AFC east untill Miami gets a new coach and possibly management. Buffalo is always an after though.
