it'll be fun to see when this ends if they really get an official game in.

Listening to the radio could be amusing. Sterling and Waldman are up well past their bedtimes.

still raining, hardly anyone there of course.

Loud boos from the remaining fans as the first pitch came in at about 11:07 PM EDT.

Why can't mother nature save the rain for this weekend(Minus Sunday) and Monday through Wednesday of next week?

Not like the Met games mean anything at this point, have them play in the rain.

They're playing because Baltimore refused to reschedule the Hurricane Irene games sensibly, so they don't have any free dates in the schedule to fit a makeup game in. The Yanks have one day off between now and the end of the season, and they're using it to fly from Seattle to Toronto.

Sucks for the fans that paid for the game, but it is what it is.

I am pretty sure the fans who stuck through this game will get a free treat of tickets either this year or next year(Probably next year) and maybe a refund of some sorts for the fans who left.

Oh I was aware about Baltimore being bitches with the sked.... I just figured they could make a double dip tomorrow. Obviously, it's not that simple.

Would have made sense but they figured they would need time to fly back to Baltimore for a Thursday game at 1PM. Would have been good if the Orioles could push that Thursday game at night(Or 4:05) but I doubt they would have been ok with it since they are desperate for people to go to their games(Since Yank fans pack the crowd)

You'd think the 1:00 Thursday game will be empty. I'll be there, but I would expect better turnout at 7:00.

the other reason for not scheduling a doubleheader tomorrow is that the weather forecast calls for more rain.

Anyway, rain coming down hard now. Game not official yet.

Why wouldn't they want to play it later, though? Yankee fans come regardless of whether it's 1:05 or 7:05.

Hughes gets a 1-2-3 and game is now official.

The game's now official, and the field's a mess.

They should call it before someone gets hurt.

How messed up would it be if they call the game just as it becomes an official game and the Yanks win 1-0?

I'd assume Girardi/Yankees want this game called now, but could see Showalter dinking it out and wanting to continue.

Either way, it's up to the umpires, correct?

Would make sense but I guess the O's don't want to wait so long if the game ends at 11PM since they have to travel to Toronto right after.

But they should have it be a night game makeup on Thursday.

Baltimore to Toronto is a short flight...the problem is that the Yankees are going cross country to Anaheim.

Continuing to play after spending about 20 minutes to dry the field is just silly. At this point the risk of a pitcher slipping off the rubber or a runner blowing a tire rounding the bases is so high that I don't understand why they're taking that risk.

    Call the game.

Even then a 4PM start wouldn't be the worst thing instead of a 1PM start.

Figured the fans who stuck in will get some kind of reward. Good that the fans who left get a ticket for Red Sox/Yanks next year though.
