The fools at Grantland (aka patsland) are still trying to talk down Sanchez after his good performance last night. These are the same guys who were running with the "Almost interceptions" last season. lol http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6960563/upon-initial-review-week-1 Did Romo blow the game? Probably. But we would have suggested the same thing about Mark Sanchez if things had gone slightly differently. Sanchez really hung in well during a tough first half that saw the Cowboys' pass rush barrel down on him, and he made some great throws during the team's comeback. But he fumbled inside Cowboys territory with six minutes left in a one-score game, and it came on a play in which he simply held the ball for too long. After the blocked punt tied up the game, Sanchez took another sack on third-and-long that set up the Cowboys for a game-winning drive, only to get the ball right back. Once Romo decided he wanted to lose the game more, Sanchez threw a would-be pick that went right through a defender's hands. And this all came against a secondary that was down its top three cornerbacks for part of the second half. We remember all this stuff now, but two months from now the Jets' win will get thrown in Sanchez's file as a comeback victory without any of the context or in-between happenings. It's absurd. Sanchez deserves credit for the late drives he's led (the drive against the Texans from last season comes to mind), but giving him a "win" for what he did in the fourth quarter is just a bad use of statistics and assigning credit.
I don't see how he can put that near-interception on Sanchez. If I recall correctly, it was nearly picked off because Derrick Mason tripped over his own feet and fell behind the defender.
Doesn't surprise me. There's a hint of truth to it, as Sanchez had some glaring mistakes in the game, but there are also other factors at play. The anti-NY sentiment is, of course, at play. Don't discount the fact that Simmons (the force behind Grantland) is a known racist as well. He hates blacks; it wouldn't surprise me if he felt the same way about Hispanics.
There was definitely truth to it. Sanchez threw some ugly ass passes, just not as ugly as romo. And of course simmons is racist. hes a masshole. like 99% of massholes are racist
It looked more like Mason ran the wrong route. Off the top of my head, Mason kept running as if he thought the ball was going deep. He also looked lost throughout the night too.
Thought the same thing. Just a miscommunication. Not suprising since Mason and Sanchez have not had alot of time to work together with Mason being hurt.
Mason looked every bit of his 37years last night. No seperation, no real quickness, and every time Mason turned around, he tripped over his own feet. Definetly not his best day as a Jet. Regarding EL Capitan, if he had been in the league 9 years like Romo and was still making throws and mental errors like we saw him do last night, I'd be panicked too or resigned to think that what we're seeing out of Sanchez is what it is..
Its not just grantland that is bashing sanchez According to ESPN's total quarterback rating Sanchez was the fourth worst quarterback of week 1. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6943920/nfl-week-1-total-qbr-leaders Can someone explain how donovan mcnabb had a better week 1 performance? That to me is total BS.
Frankly, there was a great deal of sloppy play in the NFL yesterday and it is attibutable to the effects of the lockout. No OTA's, no access to the training staff or coaches, players trying to stay in shape by themselves. As the season goes on, things will get better from a play perspective. For both teams last evening, it was the good the bad and the unforgivable but we can slide this game into the W column and move on.
So Romo gets a pass for slipping up and losing the game and Sanchez gets criticized for slipping up and almost losing? Barnwell is a fuckn' douchebag. He listed us as on the decline in his NFL preview, so he's doing what he can to protect his predictions. For being a Pats homer, Simmons actually writes pretty highly of the Jets.
He played good enough to win, which seems to be his MO. That said, I like the fact that he keeps plugging and when the opportunity appears he takes it.
That same rating system says Romo was the 11th best QB this week. As if he played way better then Sanchez. And frankly, when it comes to telling you how well a player performed, football statistics tell you the least. I mean, if someone bats .400, then they batted .400. But if a QB's completion percentage is 50%, that may mean he's inaccurate, or it may mean that he was rushed and throwing the ball away a lot, or that his receivers kept dropping passes/running the wrong routes.
i guess they missed the 84 yard 4th quarter drive that cut the cowboys lead to 7... sanchez on that drive: 5-6, 78 yards, TD
I almost won the 47 million lottery on Friday. and the Cowboys almost won the game. Every W counts one whether it is Buffalo's hammering of KC or the Jets win last night, Lam
