To be fair were all getting a little ahead of ourselves with Wilson at this point. The Cowboys had 350 passing yards vs us, and then we shut down the mighty Jaguars passing game with some no name shits at QB and WRs. Does he look better sure, but its FAR too early to call him a top cornerback at this point . Next year well see everything hes made of, but till then hes at best an above average nickle corner. And not yet a top corner
Woodson would have trouble covering Brick on a go route..... He is a great playmaker to be certain, cover corner, not so much.
If we are going to be fair how many of those yards were attributable to Wilson? 271 yards were Witten, Bryant and Austin. I don't think any were when he was covering. When Revis or Cromartie went down for a # of plays Romo certainly didn't pick on him. I don't think anyone reasonable is getting the annointing oil ready. However, it is ok to be happy with the progression of a young player a lot of people were quick to write off as a total bust last year. What makes it encouraging to me is from all reports, he worked his tail off to get better. You can't teach work ethic and pride. Plus as another poster mentioned there were no OTA's. He latched onto Revis and so far that looks smart.
Oh I know it wasnt burnt coverage on Wilsons part. But Romo was killing us through the air, and Wilson often was covering the #4 (or even #5) target so he had no need to progress that far through his targets when Witten Austin and Bryant were tearin it up. No doubts Wilson has progressed significantly, but I still expect next season to be the biggest leap of his career by faaar (and if he cant make the jump next year, itll be hard to keep believing in em). Its just the people saying "Oh yeah Wilson is a top corner" or "now we have 3 great corners" who are guilty of greatly overexagerating him. The fact is Wilson will not be tested pretty much at all until we play vs the Pats this year. The other teams all have either weak ass passing games, or just incredibly poor receiving options that will go up against Kdub
We will definitely see how much he is improved against the Pats and believe it or not the Fins. The Fins because of Bess, who is a pretty good slot guy, one of the better in the league.......... Yeah I agree, a Jets fan saying Wilson is a top corner, at present, is akin to one of those Raider fans that post their homer nonsense after they sniffed Al's depends..............
That was a great tackle and one of the preseason plays that really stood out to me too. As Pettine said in the article, the fact that he hasn't been noticed much in the first couple of games this season is definitely a good sign - just quietly going about his job and not giving up significant plays. All of those people who were constantly harping on his rookie mistakes last year seem to have disappeared all of a sudden - hmmmm.... It's obviously too early to know how good he can become but it's hard to imagine that he will do anything other than continue to improve under the tutelage of the best CB in the game.
Agree. He seems to be able to read the game better this year, definitely better in man to man coverage- I could see him settling in at strong safety sometime- shows shades of Sanders(the fit one) at Indy.
Im not saying the Eagles don't triumph us on paper... But our players have been within the system for more then idk... 2 months? Are players perform and we'll continue to see as the season progresses. More pressure = Better Secondary; I'm trying to believe this Defense will become 09-10 all over again. What was it? 9 total pass touchdowns that year?! Now we have a core together 1 more year I hope to see Strides in becoming Elite. As for our Offense.... I have nothing to say other then Put up or Shut up to much talent to NOT win. If we could somehow mange 20 ppg I feel we win with this Defense. Its all about Injuries though long year...
What makes me chuckle about what you wrote is that most fans wrote him off after week 1 last season. So with him doing well, but you saying its too soon to judge just makes me think of the overreaction from last season.
It is nice to see his progression. Sometimes it does take a bit. Glad to see Revis has taken him under his wing.
So far he has played far better than last year. But to be fair, he han't been challenged that much yet Hopefully he keeps it up
The way i see it is, as a corner, you get challenged if you play poorly. So far, Wilson hasn't been challenged by opposing QB's, because he is playing great football. QB's havent thrown his way because his guy hasnt been open. If you meant challenged, as in having to cover a great #3 receiver all game long, then your right, he hasnt had to do that yet. But to be fair, hardly any team in the NFL has 3 great receivers. The Pats, Packers, Saints are probably the only 3 teams that can boast that in the NFL right now.
Kdubs career got off to a rough start against the Ravens in a game that he wasnt supposed to start. Now hell (maybe?) get a second chance to start against the Ravens in a game that he shouldn't be starting against but will get in due to injury. Who knows, maybe itll change this time around
