Seriously, this kid should be worried about getting killed back there, nevermind actually having time to throw the ball. This line is so bad, that even Ken O'Brien doesn't envy Sanchez!
I don't know how much of that I am going to take. Believe it or not, good QBs can even disguise the shortcomings of the horrendous OL. Case in point? Watch how Kerry Collins is getting killed in Colts OL week in and week out. Peyton Manning literally audibled the protection to his OL as well. Another knock on Patriots offense a few years ago was Brady was shielding the OL's weakness too well during the regular season - once he couldn't get the ball out quick enough, he got killed. In that light, blaming the ineptitude of the Offense solely on the OL is a bit too much - there's obviously more than meets the eye.
really? then what is his excuse when the OL has played well? fact is he has been mediocre his entire career despite being surrounded by significant talent. there is nothing to indicate that he would be significantly better if the OL played better, so it is completely asinine to ignore his history and somehow deem he isn't the problem, because even if he isn't completely the problem he is a significant part of it.
I agree, and of course there's no reason to suggest that believing there are problems with the OL requires us to conclude Sanchez has none. THis is not a binary choice. Guess what? They could both be part of the problem.
I thought this was pretty obvious. Sanchez needs to improve but you're asking a lot for a guy to go out and perform when he's getting slaughtered on every snap and has no run game to prop him up. Teams are pinning their ears back and raping the OL from every gap. There is no way Sanchez is comfortable back there.
For one, Using Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as examples is stupid. These are two of the best quarterbacks who have ever played the game. They are not "good QBs". They're all world, and have played in the league for over 10 years a piece on top of that. most people consider big ben a "good QB" and look at what's happening to him right now while the OL is as bad as it is. Second, Peyton Manning got killed last year because of the poor play of his o line. It's a reason they drafted they way they did this past draft. yes, sanchez isn't good enough at this point to overcome a terrible offensive line, but not many QBs in the league are. Vick has been getting tossed around despite his ability. The only QBs that can really overcome a shit line in this league are manning, brady and rodgers and that is because of their quick release and accuracy. It also falls on schotty. Much like Mike Martz puts a death sentence on Cutler (albeit in a different way), Schotty puts Sanchez in positions to fail.
defenses are also attacking the Jets because they don't think Sanchez can beat them, which means his weaknesses dictate how the defenses play him and contributes to the problem.
It's def the line. Sanchez made some really shit throws last night, but i'm sure after almost losing your arm and head, you are bound to start getting rid of the ball quickly. The question is,are our OL problems personel or performance? I mean, can this be fixed during the season?
The success of most football teams is dependent on the offensive line. Right now our OL is performing poorly and we are getting mugged repeatedly. Mangold's absence has alot to do with it - but regardless Callahan has got to get this group together FAST. Luckily we get to play the pats next and we should be able to kick the crap out of that defense.
its both, but more on the line. you would expect more out of sanchez in his 3rd year, but the line is literally blocking nobody. -
Ok we brought in a blocking TE but have yet to sign him---------Is anyone else shocked that Tanny and company did not and still have not addressed the off line? I mean we have zero depth -ZERO behind our starters and yet we are going to live and die with what we have rite now? If we do not bring in a body or 2 in my opinion by Tuesday I will be even more shocked as if that is possible. I do not know what FA / off linemen are out there can someone post it,,,,but I do know that Shaun Ohara ,, and Seibert who I understand are coming off injuries but WE NEED HELP it is obvious. I mean if someone else goes down we are done. Who is available and have they even reached out to Damien Woody to feel him out? This is more than Mangold going down that was only the tip of the iceberg----I would cut Duchasse yesterday to make room on the roster for a warm body that can help today!
Rex said it himself today, the OL is to blame. The line looked like the 07 or 05 line last night. I wanted Sanchez pulled at halftime just to keep his health.
I think this post sums it up very nicely. The lack of variety and ingenuity in the play calling is the problem. Where were the misdirection plays. Why wasn't he taking deeper drops or rolling out? Why not send out three receivers and keep everyone else in to bock. Any combination of Holmes, Burress Mason & Keller would be hard to cover 1 on 1, and if they do double anyone, blocking should be 7 on 7 Why not run Mcknight outside? Why run outside w/an obviously slow Greene? Greene's success comes later in the games, w/defenses worn down, which neutralizes his lack of speed hitting the holes. Why can't we run LT early in games and Greene later, like last year
I don't think he is a more than 3-4 carries per game back, but don't discount the fact that while he may have a bright future, he is no Tony Richardson as a blocking back yet
Sanchez has NO accuracy. His best throws are seam passes and deep balls where receivers can adjust. He constantly throws balls that the ankles of receivers in dink and dunk range or behind them or too far in front of them etc. Everyone blamed Chad because he had no zip on the sideline pass, guess what... Sanchez is worse than Chad at making that pass. Shotty is too stupid to realize it and keeps calling it. How is it that in year 3 he still can't look off defenses before going to the intended receiver? How is it that Sanchez's pre-snap reads are a joke yet its year 3. He's NOT a franchise QB. I think the Jets are lucky to have grabbed McElroy. I think he's the starter 3 yrs from now, possibly sooner but until then they're screwed. Its too bad, they have a nice receiving core but no clue how to use them.
Rex doesn't know SH*t about offenses or he'd have dumped Shotty already. he's proving that he's half a head coach. Until he takes complete control of both sides of the ball this team isn't getting to the promised land.
