We were stopping the run in the first 3 quarters in the same defensive scheme. Would you rather let Brady pick us apart? Our D got tired and couldn't stop anything in the 4th and it's directly attributable to the 3 and outs. Our offense is killing us.
While his numbers were better in the 4th quarter (10 rushes for 59 yards, 5.9 ypc), BGE averaged 4.5 ypc the rest of the game also (17 for 77).
Lol yeah, let me clarify. Rex wasn't out-coached by Bellidouche, Schotty blew the offensive playcalling. "Out coaching" to me means Head Coach on Head Coach. Defensively we're better across the board and even personnel-wise on offense we aren't too far behind. Special Teams we also have the edge with McKnight. Doesn't matter though because the direction was horrendous.
Schotty was definitely outcoached. And the first quarter was a disaster. All these designed short passes because he was afraid the OL protection would be piss-poor again like it was against the Ravens. He coached scared and you can't do that against Belicheat. And the last Pats offensive series we were definitely out coached as well. We cannot let Green-Ellis get all those yards! And it was similar to McFadden in the Raiders. Our run defense is average.
What was the last drive about? Defense had a chance to stop them and we gave up nearly 80 yards, the majority of them on the ground. Plaxico Burress drops a huge pass near the red zone that could have changed the game. Whether you think schotty called a good game or not, the game was winnable for lack of execution and getting out-coached on the last drive. I still can't understand that last defense drive, that was the most depressing part of the game. Ill take the shitty offense and even the secondary getting shredded a bit, but all those yards on the ground are asinine.
We wil see how they respond in an official downward spiral but I agree.. we need OL depth a wr to go with holmes. A real OLB and a replacement for scott within the next yr or two.. if rex wants to keep calling zone blitzes we also need a playmaker at safety. Pretty long list but don't think any of its debateable
I agree that the Pats are not as good as their record and I think the Jets lost the game more than the Pats won it (bad play-calling and killer penalties at the worst possible time). However, the Pats last drive was troubling and says a lot about how bad we may actualy be on defense. Worse, the bye is still two weeks away, if we wanted to use it to fix the problems
I'd say the D-lines are comparable, but the Jets clearly have the superior secondary and I'd also give the edge to your linebackers. Right now it would be hard to make a case that the Jets are better than the Patriots against the run, but obviously they're far better than NE against the pass. Offensively the Jets aren't even close. I don't know what team you're watching but I'm seeing RBs who aren't doing much, receivers making key drops, and a QB who should be showing signs of reaching the next level in his third full season, but is not. The line is talented but they're not playing very well. And unless Schottenheimer is calling plays like, "Z-52 in, Burress Drop," then it's not all on him, either.
And don't forget safety. I was happy that Eric Smith seemed like he was improving, but he's now regressed and is a liability.
for the most part, our D held a prolific offense in check... when your D is on the field THAT much your not gonna be able to contain them forever... the way i see it, by the final drive we were screwed either way... we knew they would run it, but u cant stack the box against brady... he was probably hoping we would do that just so he could audible and pass for the first down instead on an overworked D... this loss falls on our offensive playcalling once again... mainly on 3rd down retarted plays short of the sticks and playing so conservatively against a weak secondary... Why no shots to burress on the back shoulder? Why not try a play action and hit keller over the middle? what happened to the quick slant to holmes? what happened to LT being our 3rd down back... i just dont understand the mindset
That presupposes that the Jets make the postseason. With both Buffalo and Oakland looking much stronger than in previous years and the Jets with 3 conference losses already, that's looking less likely.
