Shotty is 80% of the problem. He is simply terrible.

Why don't the Jets ever spread the field and run the ball? When you split out one man all the time the defense can just stack 9 men in the middle and stuff the run every time (which they do).

What's even worse is the play design. I cannot count how many times I see all the jet receivers in the same section of the field. This is just terrible play design.

Also, as many others have suggested, the plays are way too predictable. How many times can they run the same play out of the same formation?

The most sickening of all though are the 3rd day calls. If the Jets are facing a 3rd and 8, you can be absolutely certain that a 4-5 yard pass is coming. Why even bother? You might as well punt on 3rd down if you are going to throw a dink and dunk pass every time and expect the guy to break 3 tackles to make the 1st.

These problems have absolutely nothing to do with the players. The skill of the players becomes important when the offense fails due to execution. When you are running a worthless game plan, you won't win whether it is executed well or not.

It's time to burn the Hackett/Shotty playbook, then pour some gasoline on the ashes and burn it again.

Meant to vote for Both, but that's what I get for posting from an iPod. We are about half as talented in the WR dept as we were last year.

    Why even draft a qb?

Joey Harrington could run this offense.

And equally ineffective? You are correct on that one.

    Yeah I was.

Point I was trying to make is that there was no reason to draft a gunslinger-type QB who likes to improvise and throw the ball downfield when we're gonna have an offense that doesn't throw the ball over 7 yards through the air.

Schotty is simply terrible. I mean when a HOF QB in Favre does bad here you know it's on the OC plain and simple.

I shutter to think what they see in Shitty.

Fun Fact: The Bills asked to interview Schitty for their head coaching position. They were pretty high on him due to his father's input. Schottenheimer declined so he could stay with the Jets.

    2 minor points.

I agree, but You can play action from a Single Back set...and

Until you come out early and spread teams out and make the front 7 run left and right, instead of after Sanchez, he's going to keep getting killed.

The team we had the last 2 years are much different than the one we have this year, and that isn't rocket science to figure out.

I don't know how we can possibly answer that question with any certainty. I have always been taught that it doesn't matter what play is called you have to execute the play. On that logic, I have to say it is our offensive talent.

Obviously, Schotty has called some bone head plays, but which coach hasn't. All play calling has a purpose, and without knowing the purpose, how can we say it is the play calling?

What kind of offense have we had in the past 6 years under Schotty? We have been over 2000 rushing yards the last 3 years, and over 1700 the first 2 years. Not horrible, but our QB's 06 Pennington 07 Pennington/Clemens 08 Favre (Strong through 11 games, before injury) 09-11 Sanchez. This is the first year we have needed production from our QB, and we aren't getting it.

I say it is Sanchez, but I would be willing to try a new OC. At least, we will finally know what is what.

Rex is going to lose this team if the offense doesn't start holding some of its weight.

giving schotty credit for our running game is beyond retarded.

the OC has some impact on that, but there's only so many traps and counters you can mix it up with.

Schotty has been here for 5 years and no QB has succeeded under him. Including a HOF QB. I mean at what point do we say enough is enough? I'm not saying Sanchez isn't totally blameless but I've seen enough to suggest Sanchez is not the majority of the problem. It's Schitty

So who called the plays for those runs? Who game planned those traps and counters?

Im going to have to disagree... Sanchez has proven that he can win games. Not just any types games, but road playoff games, and he's come up clutch when needed. The kid has played 2 and a half years and already has the record for road playoff wins. He's a gamer and his strengths are to PA, move in the pocket and throw down field.

Schotty has made this offense into a dink and dunk offense that obviously is not working. I can take a piss on paper and design better plays. He's confined the field to 20 yards, allowing the defenses to stack the box on run and play the ball infront of them because they know Sanchez wont through more than 20 yards because of the WR routes.

Rex wants to be a balanced offense. Throw the ball when we have to and run when we have to. We cant do either because of this play calling. If you tell Phillip Rivers to throw within a 20 yard box, he'll produce somewhat like Sanchez is now. Its impossible to win games and get game breaking plays when all we run are 5 yard button hooks.

The only drop off there is between our talent this year and last year is from Braylon to Plaxico. IMO the ability isnt that far off. Plax can still stretch a field and if given an opportunity, he can out jump pretty much all corners.

I can appreciate what you are saying. Did Sanchez win those games? Did our running game win those games? Did our defense win those games? Did our special teams win those games? I believe it took a whole team. Right now we need a QB that is going to put this team on its shoulders and I don't believe that he can.

Sanchez has moxy, and I am not trying to put everything on him. He is brilliant 1-2 drives a game, and that is usually when the defense is playing soft. He has the ability to extend plays, however ridiculous looking it may be. He has talent, but he needs help.

You bring up the fact that Sanchez won games for us, but how if the play calling was so bad. By the way, I am not defending Schotty, I believe he makes some bone head calls. We are running great, and we decide to throw. We are moving the ball with passing, and we decide to run 3 times in a row.

Again, I would be ok with a new OC. We need to find out where the problems truly lie.

Your first sentence says it all, and is exactly the reason why I put the vast majority of the blame on Schotty. Our team has changed, but he's been unable to adjust his playcalling to take advantage of our personnel. At times a call here and there seems to coincide with the players talents, but he seems miraculously unable to learn from those successes. And on the flipside he stubbornly bangs away with plays that fail.

We have excellent weapons in Holmes, Plax and Keller, yet I barely realized that Holmes was playing on Sunday until the second half, and unless I'm mistaken, Keller wasn't used AT ALL. How do you have a TE who has shown he can rack up 100+ yds receiving in a game and then let him disappear into oblivion every other week. What happened to the screen passes to LT that seem to work so well when he calls them and then mysteriously disappear for a week or two?

Yes, we've seen some crappy execution at times from Sanchez and our WRs (definitely too many drops) but the illogical playcalls far outweigh those mistakes. Nothing is done to stretch the field and keep the D honest, nothing is done to utilize the height mismatches that Plax creates, nothing it done to utilize LT's ability to catch the ball - it's just inexcusable.

Bottom line is that even if we agree that Sanchez is just an average QB, this O should easily be able to produce much more than it is. Schotty needs to go, period.

You can say that about pretty much any game... "Did Tom Brady really win all those superbowls?" or "Did Santonio Holmes win the superbowl for the steelers?" Of course it takes a team effort to win games, but come crunch time, Sacnchez DID in fact play at an Elite level.

I agree that Sanchez isnt going to put the team on his back, simply because he isnt given any opportunity besides when it is crunch time and we're down 2 scores.

Our offense is much different than last year and I dont think its because of the personnel because the only thing that has changed really is .15 of a second between a Braylon 40 yard dash and a Plaxico 40 yard dash.

Theres now way in hell .15 of a second can change the dynamic of an offense. Schotty has just called horrible game after horrible game and hasnt given Sanchez an opportunity to put the team on his back (and i do understand the Oline was limiting in the Baltimore game and here and there in other games)

You also have to keep in mind when you say that you want to put the team on his shoulders that he is 24 and has played only 2 full seasons
