i would love to see him fired by sunday but i highly doubt it happens. His playcalling is terrible. His father is the sole reason he has a job in this league. Either ways, if we don't make the playoffs his contract will not be renewed. If we don't make the playoffs i expect a lot of changes to be made this upcoming offseason. The holes in this team are glaring and we are not an elite team in the league. I think we give sanchez one year with a new OC and if the results are the same then Sanchez has to go.
what exactly did you see that you could blame this loss on the OC? was it the bad decisions by Mark? the dropped passes? the injury to Shonn Greene? the mediocre play of the OL? No it was the play calling, right? You guys are embarrassing.
As much of a critic as I was of Shitforbrains earlier in the season, where it was clear that he wasn't doing what was needed to adjust in-game, or make better calls, yesterdays debacle falls clearly on Sanchez and his inability to play at an appropriate level given our expectations of him. Crappy QB play, bad throws, locking down on receivers, holding onto the ball too long, etc- those are all internal to the QB. Don't get me wrong, Shitforbrains is not exempt from blame, but last night falls more on Sanchez and a slacking "D" than anyone else.
It's not a matter of blaming one game or one play on him, although the direct snap to McKnight call was a disgrace. At this point it's about the big picture, and this guy has sucked for basically his entire tenure in this job. It isn't about specific playcalls really, it's about the disgraceful offensive design. The lack of getting his best player Holmes involved. The lack of an identity. The fact his offense is based around plays where 2 or 3 receivers all run the exact same route in the same area. How many other teams do you watch and see defenders so easily come off their man to make a play on someone else because they're so close. How many other teams do you watch and see players on offense run into each other because their routes are so retarded? And yes, his playcalling IS shit. Sanchez has talent. You see him make some great plays here and there and you wonder why it can't be more consistent. Well I firmly believe the reason is this offense and this clown calling the shots for that offense. He is absolutely terrible and has been for 6 years now.
What should he have done differently? Moore and Hunter are blasted into the backfield on every run to the right....our blocking TE, Mulligan, can't block. Worst of all, we have a non-quarterback playing quarterback. Picked twice in 2 weeks on check down passes? No touch on a 4 yard crossing route? The guy is a plug. Firing Schottenheimer won't change anything with this loser at QB.
The Shittenheimer supporters who want to defend him and say "Oh well what plays SHOULD he have called!" are missing the point. Look at the big picture.. the offensive play designs are horrendous. His idea of creativity is a direct snap to McKnight. There is no creativity in the play designs to get guys open, to exploit weaknesses, to create mismatches out there. You see other teams do this kind of stuff all the time.. Look at other teams using motions and bunch sets against the Jets to create confusion and get guys open. Works like a charm.. lots of teams employ this strategy. Not the Jets. And the only motion we see is Matt Mulligan come running back and forth at the line 3 or 4 times pre-snap only to stand there and miss a block. He has GOT to.. the sooner the better. As much as I hate him I thought a mid-season change would be a bad move, but at this point I think it has to be done. With him we have no chance.. so might as well roll the dice that a mid-season firing will spark the offense.
This has been my biggest issue for the past 2-3 seasons. Every team throughout the entire league is spreading out the field with WRs, and we're condensing the field with ours. It's unwatchable.
Too many pass plays run out of the I formation. Too many instances of getting negative yardage on first down. An then continuing to call the same sequence of plays on ensuing possessions.
Hardly. Sanchez' lack of production starts with the playcalling. ALL QB's throw picks and pick 6's And, one of the alleged reasons Schotty is supposed to be good, is bc he can develop QB's.
See I'm just not sure about this. We've seen the guy play well. We've seen him rifle the ball 20 yards downfield into a tight window or drop a long one over the defender for a big completion. We've seen him make the clutch play for the win, many times in his young career. Granted he is not playing well recently but it's the whole offense that is not playing well. The OL is not run blocking or pass protecting well, and the playcalling, well, it's too conservative when they need to be aggressive, too cutesy when they need to be conservative, and lacks any creativity, adaptability and gameplanning. It has been like this for years, dating back to before Sanchez.
Direct Snap to Powell? Joe McKnight up the gut with 9 in the box? Routes where receivers are running into each other? A lot of bullshit pre-snap motion that does nothing but waste the shitty TE's energy for no reason? Mark's ineptitude is partially caused because the offensive calls are offensive. If Wayne hunter is a turnstyle, then make the line pull the opposite direction. Double up on protection on the left side. You can't have Mulligan who is absolutely terrible continue to play max protect and miss blocks. 3 years with MS under center - have you ever seen a flea-flicker? I know I have mentioned this in multiple threads. Where the fuck is the "creativity" from the play calling?
I'd actually rather Schitty NOT get creative with his play calls.. they never work. The direct snap this week, the one where they tried to pass to Sanchez a few weeks ago.. they just never work, he has no feel for the game. But I would definitely love to see someone brought in who can get creative with the DESIGN of the offense. You don't have to do trick plays if you are able to create mismatches and get guys open down the field. That's where creativity for an OC is key, and of course that's an area Schitty is severely lacking.. unless you count drawing up a play where your guys run into each other as creative.
Yeah.. I don't know where he got that rep from. Brees only really took off when he went to work with Payton. In fact, under Schitty, Brees was so undeveloped that the Chargers went out and used the #4 pick in the draft to pick another QB. Then in his time with the Jets, look what he's done. Chad underperformed, Clemens actually got worse, Favre had one of his worst seasons, and now a top 5 pick QB has regressed under Schitty's leadership. It's pathetic.
I don't think you guys realize all the problems we have on O for the OC to deal w/: -Ijnuries to top 2 RBs -poor play of OL -poor play of QB It's easy to sit here and say he should have done this or that but if the players aren't executing you have no chance.
Yes but when you have 9 in the box don't you think that play would have worked instead of stopping McKnight for a loss of minus 1? How about pitching it back to MS and see if he could hit an open receiver.
