I absolutely hate having to ask this, but if we make the playoffs can we actually do anything ?

Its pretty clear and cut that come december/january defense/running game wins football games.

And with having Wayne Hunter, possibly the worst offensive lineman in the nfl starting for us, he effectively turns EVERY defense we play into an elite one.

We played the absolute WORST defense in the NFL in our house, and our absolutely PUTRID offensive line made them look like a completely elite monster defense.

Plus having such a putrid o-line absolutely limits our ability to run the ball effectively which again keeps our defense on the field, taking away from the overall play of our defense.

Winning 3 games on the road in the playoffs is fucking hard as it is, but doing it with the strengths of your team being completely crippled, is it even possible?

There are a lot of ifs here.

But drawing on this season's history. Probably not.

This team does not show up for big games.
This team cannot handle the spot light.
This team is not fundamentally sound.
This team doesn't have the personnel to execute the coach's defensive scheme.
The coach is too stubborn to switch the scheme.
The offensive line cannot open gaps.
The offensive line cannot protect QB.
The QB cannot throw down field.
The QB cannot hit open receivers on dump passes over the middle.
    Our running back is soft.
Our second best player is a kick returner.
    The offensive coordinator is horrible.
    Our blocking TE can't block.

    These are just a few.

Also this team cannot afford to think ahead. Buffalo, who just got blown up by Miami will beat the Jets if they play like they did in Denver.

If the Jets make the playoffs that means they won quite a few games in a row, so yes. If they make the playoffs they can do something.

It was more a question of is it even worth it for us to make the playoffs ?

I mean if this team has even a legit chance of going on the road and winning 3 games no fucking doubt it is.

But with how bad Hunter is were talking probably getting through wild card weekend, then youre talking us drafting around 25th or later, instead of 13-18th (right now were on pace to draft 15th overall)

And considering how desperately we need an RT, i think that makes a massive difference. Especially since we wont exactly have a ton of salary space to go out and sign a beastly free agent RT this offseason (not like there are usually many of those lying around anyway).

    This.

I don't think the Jets are making the playoffs, but if they do, they'd most likely have to finish 11-5. If they did, it would mean they won 6 in a row. Regardless of competition, I'd take that to mean they turned things around.

Sadly, after losing to Tebow, I don't think there is a single game on the schedule the Jets can look at now and call a sure win.

We could always beat the pats in new england and spoil their super bowl aspirations again. That's always fun.

Last season we had an elite offensive line, which lead to a solid running game and improved our already elite defense.

This year we have a massive gaping hole on the offensive line. Which in turn cripples our rushing game, thus putting excessive pressure and hurting our defense.

Not to mention having a gaping hole on the oline means putting excess pressure on sanchez both literally and figuratively as well as hurts our passing game too.

Wayne Hunter is no Damien Woody, hes more like a Vernon Gholston

It depends on what can we do anything means.

If the Jets make the playoffs, they'll either get at Oakland, at Denver or at Houston.

They could certainly win any of those, especially since Houston will have their back up qb.

After that it will get tough. But the 9-7 Jets that "backed in" went to San Diego and beat a team that was on an 11 game winning streak. So once your in, anything can happen.

Again that 9-7 Jets team had the #1 rushing attack, #1 defense, and #1 offensive line in the nfl.

These Jets have Wayne Fucking Hunter

Did you create a thread just to post "Wayne Hunter" to every post that replies with a "Yes, going to the playoffs indicates that anything can happen."?

I seriously doubt we make the playoffs in the first place. But, if we do it's because we got our shit together. We're not winning 5 out of 6 or 6/6 because we got lucky. We can't lose anymore and to do that, we will have to grow to be solid overall. Because one of these teams with a shitty record will have the coaching and personnel to attack match ups (a la Denver) in our perceived weaknesses. So we will have had to in large part reduce our fuck ups to get there. If we do, then I'm not betting against us.

we would need to be playing at an extremely high level to have any sort of chance. This team has way too many holes to realistically make a run at a championship.

    Yes.

Defense wins championships, and for whatever flaws we've had on that side of the ball this season we still have the personnel to shut down the majority of the offenses in football. If we make the playoffs (and it's a huge "if,") we are definitely capable of pulling an upset or two.
