We beat a team today we were supposed to beat IF we're as good as we're told we are. Our offense today, for the most part, was a miserable efforting until the 4th qtr. We still struggle against lesser teams and as of yet, haven't beat any "quality" teams except for the two gifts from Dallas and SD. In fact, the quality teams have kicked our asses this season so feel free to put the koolaid down and unload the pipe. We won't play any contenders until the post season IF we make it. This team still needs to prove it can beat the "good teams".
Oh my god. I know. Im not saying we did a bad job Im just saying the score isn't indicating how great of a game the skins defense played. He said 34 points is the most put up on them all year and Im trying to say that doesn't mean it was their worst defensive performance. They gave up more points in the end because they were playing wreckless trying to make a big play. Also the td set up by Maybins sack.
played well down the stretch. everyone came up clutch and of course the red zone efficiency helps. much improved
The redskins have played a bunch of garbage time over the season and they still havent given up 34 points before.
The point is that it's an indication that our offense is clicking. This is a decent defensive team, and we put up a good number on them. We shouldn't have to apologize for Maybin causing a fumble. It's an avenue to score points and turn momentum, it happens in football. Don't subtract things. For instance, analysts never say "well, Sanchez would be having a really promising year statistically if it weren't for the Baltimore game." An UDFA playing C with no one knowing the line calls against Gregg, Ngata, Lewis, Suggs, Johnson etc. You don't have to be objective about this. We scored 34 points.
Not certain why the 1-8 all time against the Skins matters. I mean, the Jets only play them once every four years (and it may have been longer than that before the re-alignment).
Everybody is acting as if the Jets should have blown the Skins off the field today. The Jets were 3 point favorites and after the Holmes TD went up by 4, which is about what should have been expected. The other TDs came from turnovers at the end of the game.
this is great, but i feel better that we figured out how to stop Helu after the 1st TD drive. yeah Helu had some more big gains, but nothing crazy.
I was pretty happy about the 34 points. For once, at the end of the game after we take the lead, instead of a scare we have a huge burst and score more than we needed. We scored on our first drive, too, that was huge since we've been struggling early. On a sort of related note, who else knew Folk was missing the 40 yarder? I even said to my buddy "He made the 51 but he's about to miss this 40." Luckily, it didn't matter. Oh yeah one more thing, 34 was a season high for us too.
That said, I'm still not happy with the offense. The offense looked mediocre most of the day. We couldn't get traction with the running game all game. The passing game was inconsistent as always. Both the Jets and Redskins have solid defenses and inconsistent offenses. The difference is the Jets are usually better in regards to the turnover battle than Washington is. That came to fruition today. The Jets won because they won the turnover battle 3-1 (really, 2-1 because the last pick was in total garbage time). The Jets offense is meant to be a complementary part to a great defense and great special teams. That's been our formula until Sanchez improves to a level where you can trust him for 4 quarters. The Jets pulled away late, scoring 21 points with the help of the defense and special teams. On the game-winning drive, Josh Baker (of all people) returned the ball out to the 49 yardline, giving us great field position. The next drive, Maybin set us up at the 9, then special teams set us up at the 25 with the game essentially out of hand. That was a big drive from this team, and being able to get that rushing TD from the 9 was huge and ended the game. They made big plays when they needed to. This game was very reminiscent of last year's road games against teams we thought we should beat (DET, CLE, DEN). We struggled with the other team most of the game, then made some big plays late in the game to pull away. We were able to pour it on in the final minutes in this game, but other than that, it pretty much took the same formula, except the game-winning score happened a little earlier.
Which the NFL disallows u think? Seriously, points off turnovers don't mean anything? I don't care when they happen, Jets have lost several games due to turnovers and points off of those TOs. Its like u saying, 'oh, well the Jets played good enough to win against the Ravens if it weren't for the turnovers'. Its was a great defensive play. Don't take the credit away from the players. Turnovers at the end of the game generally have more importance than a TO at the beginning of the game.
Please stop, how worn down was the D on that opening drive? Our O consistently holds the ball longer than the opponet, that has NOTHING to do w/ our D consistently choking/
Dude you are a little too up in arms about this. Yes the Maybin fumble and touchdown, to go ahead by 2 scores, were huge and worth considering. But our last score was clearly during garbage time. It's pretty obvious to anyone watching that game that it was a lot closer than the score indicated.
Let's not forget that this skins team was 1-6 in their last 7 because their QB for most of those games was John Beck, or Mitch Beck or whomever. Grossman isn't Manning, but he is a functional QB as opposed to Beck, who isn't.
Sure we scored 34 points but only put up 266 yards of total offense, which I bet the Bills and Giants both beat. It's nice to get in the end zone, but you can't expect similar results if all you can do it get 266 yards.
Thank you. I wasnt even trying to take anything away from the Jets just saying that the Redskins played good defense and the amount of points didnt indicate that. We got 2 easy TDs at the very end of the game. A 9 yard run and a 20ish yard run.
Guess they didn't watch film. That was Baker's 3rd return, as an upback. 20 yd. avg on returns now, thanks to that kick!
